When will I get AS/A level predictions?
Hi there, so i'm about to start sixth form in september this year and i'm one of those people who finds it really helpful to know what i'm working towards, it really motivates me :L
So I was wondering how long will it take to get predictions? and how do they decide what your predictions will be at the start? Is it based off GCSE's or classwork?
I know each schools different but its you could tell me what the process was with you, then that would help very much
Thanks -
Re: When will I get AS/A level predictions?
We got predictions within a few weeks. But they were purely based on your gcse scores and how people with similar gcses did at your A-levels in the past. These are hugely inaccurate especially if your work ethic changes a lot and if it's a subject you've never studied before.
A guy in my chemistry class got mainly Cs at GCSE, he was thus predicted to fail all of his subjects. In january he got a B in chemistry (one of only 3 out of 21 people to pass that exam) and Cs in his other subjects I think.
yet you then get the kind of people who get As at gcse with minimal effort. They then think the same can happen at a-level, when it can't
And then there's some subjects that you won't have done before like pyshcology or politics or an obscure language. Yes these will have aspects from your gcse subjects, but some people will do excellently in them, and others will flump. But these are the hardest to predict. Plus if you have a january exam in them, you will only have been studying the subject for little over 4 months when you have an exam in them. Traditional subjects like english, maths and science teach you for years before your first proper test in them. -
Re: When will I get AS/A level predictions?I got my predictions within a week, they based it off our GCSE results, my college had a weird way of working it out. Each GCSE was worth a specific amount of points which all get added up and then they divide the total number of points by how many GCSE's I have done, it is really weird. My GCSE's are mostly B's so they gave me a predicted grades of C/D. Anyway, don't follow these target grades they don't reflect what you should get, you should be aiming higher than them and probably will. For A2 they give you predicted grades based on your AS results and how each lecturer thinks you will do, the A2 predicted grades are far more important as they play a major role in your university application.(Original post by Chlomc)

We got our first lot within a few weeks, it was based off our GCSEs and what other people with those results achieved at A level in the past, load of rubbish though because 2 of my 4 subjects were new and the other 2 I got A*s at GCSE but they still used all of my GCSEs (including several As and Bs) to predict it so my predictions were a fair bit lower than I wanted them to be. A bit later in the year (bit before Christmas I think) we got predictions from each of our subject teachers based on work we'd done which were a lot better.

Re: When will I get AS/A level predictions?
hey at my sixth form we did an alis test that is organised by durham uni and they used that to predict us. it was really inaccurate because it wasn't something you could revise for so not academic and it measured 'raw ability'-whatever that means so many people came out with D's for predictions but i know my AS exams were better than that.

Re: When will I get AS/A level predictions?
We never got GCSE or AS predictions. People were asking about GCSE predictions and teachers said they did them, but internally and we never found out. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
I did get A2 predictions- fine with two of them, but one pissed me off. -
Re: When will I get AS/A level predictions?
We got our first set of A Level predictions at a meeting we each had just before GCSE exams. They were based on our predicted GCSE grades, and they were complete rubbish. I got all A's and A*'s predicted at GCSE and I was told I'd most likely end up with C's and D's in all my subjects. One of my friends, who is actually Spanish and can speak it fluently, got told he was predicted a U in A Level Spanish!
We got our first decent set of predictions at the end of October of AS. They were based on how we'd been working up to that point, combined with our GCSE results. I got predicted A's and B's, so it was much better then

Re: When will I get AS/A level predictions?
you'll get your 'BS' predictions within a month or two, don't pay attention to those, then you'll get more accurate predictions after your first round of results providing you don't mess them up, then your most accurate predictions for the whole A level you'll get just before applying to uni.
