    Haha yeah I do!

Well that's just the thing - most people don't bother backing up until something like that happens. A lot of us learn the hard way, myself included

I know right! It has actually happened to me before tbh! With the exact same laptop aswell! I've had it for 3 and a half years now.. and about 2 years ago I got a virus, didn't save my work.. had no idea what to do.. put the CD in and restored vista. But I was in school then so the work wasn't that important.. but this time it was 2 years worth of uni work GONE!

Haha I know but still, would like this to last longer .

See I didn't realise that the CD was a restore CD.. I thought it would repair the system and I could get my data back but nooo when it started to restore the whole OS, I cancelled the thing and then it just wouldn't boot up after that.

Oh he goes that the files are all corrupted since the harddrive was damaged.
The light shouldn't be an issue, if your battery was dying your netbook would tell you, thats the main issue with laptops/netbooks.

It's Vista isn't it, not sure, but they have the option for a single user data restore option as I've done it before.
Did you turn it off to cancel it or did you press the cancel button?

You can still get it back, though it depends on the damage using linux(its a free OS) to recognise the hard driver than you use a linux based recovery program.

    whats your plan than?

Ah okay that's good to hear about the netbook then!

Yeah it's vista. Nah I pressed the button to cancel it and then after that it just wouldn't boot up.

I booted up using linux.. but there was nothing there under the OS (got it from another forum to do that and my data should be there but it wasn't).

May just get a new laptop now. What else can I do?

You should have waited, I think you had to go into advanced, than you can save your usernames data and restore everything else.

Than it must be badly damaged.

    Found anything you liked yet?

Hi, I know this probably isn't the greatest of places to ask about this but I'm at my wits end!

So my laptop decided to play up like hell this morning.. It would get to the vista loading page and then restart over and over again. When it did restart it come up with options etc and I tried booting in safe mood which didn't work . So then I googled what to do and many websites mentioned repairing the system. Now I have a vista CD and I thought that was the repair CD but nope it was only to reinstall the whole OS which meant deleting all my important work. So I cancelled that and now whenever it try to switch it on it says "bootmgr missing. Press ctrl + alt + delt to restart" and this keeps coming up. Now I have no bloody idea as to what to do! I don't know that much about computers hence why I'm asking here now!

I don't want to do a full install of vista since I don't want to lose my data. So is there any way I can get it back????

    Thanks!

The install disk is the repair disk. Put it back in an run it. Look carefully at all the options... There should be an option at the bottom of the window saying repair. I know this because I've used it...

Edit: My bad, didn't notice two week old thread... Things going good so far?

Tell me the details of them and names.........currys and pcworld are usually a rip off, sometimes a sale springs up with a very good deal but on-line mainly.

The proper vista CD is a repair CD.. The one I have is from the laptop manufacture which is just a full restore of vista (I think it's called an OEM CD from what I gather from the net ). And it doesn't matter now anyway since I've had a new harddrive put in and vista reinstalled now.

Also do you know why my mouse pad is ****ed up on the laptop? It works for like 20 seconds and then won't move and then it will again. Also I need to press really hard on the pad to move it. It wasn't like this before. I'm just thinking that maybe the replacement of the harddrive done something? Or is that rubbish haha

When it was booting up, did it go to a blue screen and then restart?

I got it from the disk with the laptop but then I went onto the site and tried to install that and it came up with "This driver is the same version as you are already using".. so I just assumed that was it.

Hmmm I'll probably end up doing that now!
