Re: Will I pay when I go to the dentist?Thank you. I'm confused as I know the age is 19 if you're a student, but when I went in in March the woman said that it was good that I had my treatment then or when I turned 18 I would've had to have paid.(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)
I have a feeling you're okay until you're 19! But if someone would like to confirm that would be great.

Re: Will I pay when I go to the dentist? Not sure why they told you that, I know I certainly didn't start paying until I turned 19.(Original post by Gales)

Re: Will I pay when I go to the dentist?
You do not have to pay for NHS dental treatment if, when the treatment starts, you are:
aged under 18
under 19 and receiving full-time education
pregnant or have had a baby in the previous 12 months
staying in an NHS hospital and your treatment is carried out by the hospital dentist
an NHS hospital dental service outpatient (however, you may have to pay for your dentures or bridges).
You also do not have to pay if, when the treatment starts, you are receiving:
Income Support
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Pension Credit guarantee credit
or
you are named on a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate or you are entitled to an NHS tax credit exemption certificate
you are named on a valid HC2 certificate
straight from the NHS website

According to the NHS Wales website I won't have to pay for my Examination as I'm under 25, but all the other conditions are the same as in England. -
Re: Will I pay when I go to the dentist?Yeah, I think you'll still count as in full time education probably until September, by which time you'll be in university thus still in full time education.(Original post by Gales)

EDIT: I started a college course but left it a few months in. Months later I applied elsewhere, had my place set up ready but had not yet started; I had a Boots Opticians appointment which is paid for by the NHS if you're in full time education under a certain age. Even though I hadn't actually started there yet they still took the name of my new college and got the NHS to cover it.Last edited by sliceofcake; 14-07-2012 at 18:30. -
Re: Will I pay when I go to the dentist?
Once you are at university you may still be eligible for help on low income grounds. I'm afraid I don't know enough about this to help but you can read the official guidance here http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthc...me-scheme.aspx
