*Really* worried about my mum PLEASE HELP
So basically my mum is almost 60 and I'm getting worried about her.
Shes lost a lot of hair recently due to a thyroid problem and stress according to her GP. Everyday it seems like she loses more hair, and there are patches of baldness across her head.
She also has these weird spots on her limbs, that look a little like age or liver spots.
She doesn't speak as much as she used to in full sentences, and instead opts for one word sentences.
She spends most of her time sleeping as she is always tired, and is starting to walk a little different than usual.
I feel like she's just not been herself recently, and I've never seen her like this before.
I'm 18 and currently interning at an investment bank during the summer where I'm very busy and work long hours during the week. I sometimes feel like I can't concentrate on my work because I keep thinking of my mum and how she is.
I'm not ready to lose my mum, but I can't help but be worried.
What do I do? :'( -
Re: *Really* worried about my mum PLEASE HELPI agree with this. Get her to go out with her friends as well - she could be lonely.(Original post by 2ndClass)
With age, it's normal to feel lethargic and Thyroid only exacerbates the problem. I wouldn't worry too much. Just try to engage her in conversation, take her out shopping etc. She's probably going through depression.Last edited by petzneo; 14-07-2012 at 19:33. -
Re: *Really* worried about my mum PLEASE HELP
The hairloss and lethargy are probably due to the thyroid problem. Is your doctor able to prescribe replacement hormones to get her to normal levels? That will make her feel much better. I know this might seem a bit of an insensitive comparison but it's mean to be as something which will make you feel a bit happier about the situation: anyway, our dog has a very low activity on her thyroid which made her lose her hair and become very lethargic, she wouldn't ever run and would sleep a lot more than normal. After we got her replacement hormone sorted and she settled down to a normal level she started growing hair back to a full coat and she's very active now even though she's 9 - she runs all over the place and jumps and plays like a puppy! Things can get better in a matter of months!
