Do You Fear Death?
Hey Guys;
Well, I know this is a bit of a morbid subject but I wonder because a lot of people claim that because I am an atheist, I must be terrified of death because there is nothing beyond the here and now. This kind of frustrates me and, so, I was wondering what other people believe in death including the following;
Do You Fear Death?:
What Are Your Beliefs (Religious or Not):
I personally do not fear death but it will probably be the manor of death which I fear, this is because I suppose I don't want to burn to death. Whilst I don't fear death, I don't wish to die either. =P
What I think happens after death: Nothing, hence the reason why I can't describe it nor imagine it because it is mentally too challenging or simple for a human to think of nothing. -
If I were you, I'd fear the fact that you choose to believe that you are a slave to a tyrannical entity who decides whether or not you burn for eternity or go to a "heaven" which sounds more like another hell.(Original post by PinkMobilePhone)
I'm Catholic and I believe in life after death, but despite this, yes I fear death. I fear it so much that I can't even begin to express how terrified of dying I actually am.

b) I'm not afraid of "burning for eternity" because I don't think that I'd be sent to hell - that's a bit extreme for a pretty ordinary housewife.
c) If paradise sounds like hell to you, I think maybe you need to look up the definition of paradise.
d) You state "if you were me". Well no, if you were literally me, you'd have my mind, and you'd think exactly the same way that I do. -
Re: Do You Fear Death?Actually, it is impossible to observe what isn't there. Hence the reason why nothing is actually transparent and not white, black or anything. So, the nothing (or eternal darkness as you call it) is simply to complex or simple for the human mind to understand.(Original post by No Man)
I am an Agnostic, but I don't fear death. I am pretty interested in the outcome (for those that die), since I don't believe it will be eternal darkness (since you have to be conscious to observe the darkness) -
If you had free will then how does that allow your "omniscient" god to know everything that will happen to you in the future? Because you don't have free will.(Original post by PinkMobilePhone)

You are probably afraid of hell like most religious people, so of course you will deny any possibility of ending up there.
How is it paradise? You're endlessly stuck in some dimension which makes no logical sense. How will you continue to age? Will you get so old that you wither into a little stick? Do you get all of the possessions you want? It would get boring quickly. Are there going to be people there that you didn't/don't like? How does a three year old comprehend anything there, for example? Think hard about it and it sounds more like another hell.
That's great.
You claim to be part of a religion yet you tailor it to suit your own morality most probably out of fear.
