Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012And why not? if it isn't offered on the NHS then patients have a right to know they can go privately.(Original post by SciFiRory)
no.
That said my GP has always done this and I don't see the need for it... in fact he did it two days ago when I asked about something that came about due to a previous NHS operation... **** says I have to go private

Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012No the British NHS.(Original post by internetguru)
French NHS? -
Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012
This is quite sensible, although "make aware of" is maybe better than "recommend". The NHS has a cost:benefit cut-off that is often lower than individuals', and it doesn't harm anyone else for people to receive additional treatment they're willing to pay for. The problem is people are not experts on healthcare so they usually don't know these opportunities exist.
However I'm not a fan of the poor grammar in the title. -

What are you doing using our health service do you live here or something? I knew we should have blocked the borders and banned dual nationalities you would sell our country out in second you French/mossad agent.
Not actually sure if he's joking though

Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012No. Everyone should use the NHS which is a great institution. Patients should be able to make their own decisions about whether they use private healthcare or not.
-
Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012I don't think you understood the whole idea of the bill. If something is not offered by the NHS for example, does the doctor not have the duty to tell the patient that they can have it done privately or if it is quicker to get it done privately if they so wished to pursue that route?(Original post by RoryS)
No. Everyone should use the NHS which is a great institution. Patients should be able to make their own decisions about whether they use private healthcare or not.
I think denying the patient the right to choose is a disgrace. -
Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012
Self regulation? No penalties. You wouldn't expect the local council to tell you next door council service is better (for example Barnet Council telling you that the cycle facilities in Camden are better) or Ryanair to tell you that BA's pricing and booking has less hidden charges.

Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012I agree with this if patients also receive advice on the potential cost of going private. The NHS should assist low-income patients to receive care that's only offered privately.
I do agree that some areas of NHS provision, such as gastric bands and some aspects of cosmetic surgery, should be transferred to the private sector. -
Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012That defeats the object, since this is about treatment that the NHS considers to be outside its acceptable cost:benefit range.(Original post by Birchington)

Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012No, non, nein, нет!(Original post by Birchington)

It is bad enough that poor people share my healthcare, why should I then pay for them to go private? I'd refuse to pay my taxes then. -
Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012The logical outcome of this bill is that private companies will provide detailed information to attract the patient, this includes cost.(Original post by Birchington)

Depending on the type of service it could be an idea however i shall allow the Secretary Of State For Health to answer this point in more detail, though the government will certainly not be funding unnecessary services.
Indeed, i also support extending this to operations for cultural and religious reasons. -
Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012
I can see the logic of this. People should know all the options even those that are avaliable with private healthcare and not on the NHS. Then again if said person is told and then realises they can't get private healthcare for one reason or another that's another issue.

I reckon this would amount to taunting in most circumstances, even if intended as help. "Oh, you could have the cancer removed tomorrow but only if you have £67,000!"
Most people can't afford private healthcare, and this would just add to the non-healthcare jobs expected of medical practitioners, of which there are already too many.

Re: B476 - Information Of Healthcare Bill 2012Oh you are very optimistic of how much it costs to treat cancer.(Original post by JPKC)

How is this non-healthcare?

I don't actually know, I'll admit that. I'm willing to guess that it's far beyond the means of most people.(Original post by tehFrance)

Telling people that they could get treatment elsewhere doesn't really count as treating them! How is this non-healthcare?
