    Hi everyone,

I'm slowly starting to become more interested in indie rock music. So far I really like The Killers, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys

Does anyone have anymore suggestions for anymore songs or bands that are similar to the ones that I've just listed.

    Thank you.

EDIT: Why the neg? I'm only asking for suggestions...........

All of those bands listed are very mainstream indeed, nothing wrong with that, but they are mainstream...try pavement, sebadoh, beck, slint, godspeedyou! sunny day real estate.

I have similar taste of music to that what you describe. Look up JET, The Datsuns, The Hives, The Automatic.
Quality bands that I've found through buying cheap CD's in That's Entertainment. When I bought they were all in the 6 for a £5 deal. Then there's the more popular ones like The Fratellis (love their first album!), Razorlight, The Black Keys and Stereophonics.

*why the negging people? OP asked for suggestions, I gave suggestions. Shall I go negging all your posts?

I meant mainstream as in music that is played constantly on Capital FM.

    Hi everyone,

I'm slowly starting to become more interested in indie rock rather than mainstream. So far I really like The Killers, The Kooks, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Two Door Cinema Club.

Does anyone have anymore suggestions for anymore songs or bands that are similar to the ones that I've just listed.

    Thank you.
I hope you realise that all of the bands you listed there are 'mainstream'. *Sigh* Oh, and not only are they mainstream, they're so ****ing boring and mediocre. You could and should find a lot better. I'd ignore some of the suggestions here if I were you, unless you want more dull ****

This is the problem with the whole 'indie' fad at the minute. People think just because they wear chinos and don't listen to the terrible pop groups in the charts that they're really cool and indie (I hope this is not you OP, but I have my doubts..)

It's hard to put a true label on what Indie really is nowadays since it's been so distorted. However, I will list a few bands that are definitely worth listening to regardless:

    - The Smiths
    - The Cure
    - R.E.M
    - The Jesus and Mary Chain
    - Sonic Youth
    - The Brian Jonestown Massacre
    - Spiritualized
    - Spacemen 3
    - Primal Scream
    - Josef K
    - SCARS
    - Television
    - The Chameleons

and those are just a few suggestions, I could give loads more. To be honest most of those bands probably wouldn't even think of categorising themselves as Indie, but they're great nevertheless.

There's good music everywhere, so don't just limit yourself to the Indi wannabes like The Wombats etc

Edit: The Horrors (from few posts above) are a fantastic shout as well. One of my favourite bands, but again are not 'Indie'

I really pity the poor sods who negged this. Just keep telling yourselves that The Kooks & Co are indie and you'll be just fine..

When I become a sub, which I will, I will find all you neggers and destroy you on every music forum you decide to post on.

Wouldn't class them ''Indie'' as such but Canterbury have released a new album ''Heavy In The Day'' and it's soooooo good! Their debut ''Thank You'' is pretty awesome too!

Check out Futures new album as well!

All of them really. Actually, Arctic Monkeys are alright I suppose as are The Killers.

But The Kooks? The ****ing Kooks? Honestly one of the worst bands around right now IMO, so mediocre and dull. Can't see why anybody would like them, but that's up to them.

Two Door Cinema Club aren't actually mediocre, they're downright awful in my opinion. Find the singer's voice so annoying and don't get me started on the song content :sigh:

Anyway, I wasn't trying to offend you or anything, but I just think that there is much better music out there that people just turn a blind eye to (again, might not necessarily be you).

Just seek stuff out, admittedly its much more time consuming for me to say, find a punk or shoegaze band I really like, but when I do, I'm pleased to say it's a lot more rewarding than listening to indie wannabe tripe. At least I think so..

Oh I'm not offended, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I'll bear what you said in mind next time I listen to something new.

No they're not. Only listened to the first album of theirs (I think) and I can tell you it definitely wasn't 'genius'. It was alright I suppose.

See my above post for Arctic Monkeys. They're ok, I just can only listen to Alex Turner yapping on about living above chipshops and sleeping with whores for so long. Gets rather dull.

I love how everyone jumps on the Coldplay hate bandwagon, but then vehemently deny that their 'indie' music isn't boring in the same way. I agree, Coldplay are totally boring. They're just a bit.. out there, aren't they? The very definition of insipid.

But so are a lot of the bands listed in the OP

Good shout! Not familiar with the other bands in terms of their music, but I've heard of them.
