I take your point on the first album, but I really think Turner's lyricism matured over the years. I'm a big fan of the band though so this is a totally biased opinion.
I take your point and would probably agree. They were always just a little too 'working class and proud of it' for me. I mean, of course it's fine if you are, but it just got boring.
Ok, you definitely wouldn't classify all of these as indie rock but...
Biffy Clyro- Listen to 'That Golden Rule'
Interpol- 'All Fired Up' and 'My Chemistry'
Bloc Party- check out 'Helicopter', 'Hunting For Witches' and 'Talons'
Doves- I like 'Darker' and 'Words' best
The Wombats-check out 'Moving To New York'
Franz Ferdinand- I suggest 'Ulysses'
If you like the artic monkeys you may like Miles Kane (Inhaler is a great track) or The Last Shadow Puppets
Muse- 'Map of The Problematique', ''Hysteria', 'Plug In Baby'
Radiohead- 'There There' 'Iron Lung' 'Vegetable' 'Electioneering', ANYTHING.
Porcupine Tree- 'Arriving Somewhere But Not Here', 'Trains' and 'anesthetize'
The Horrors- 'Still Life'
