Depression Help!
I am feeling really depressed just now for the last month or so. I am not sleeping well at all. I have also been sick quite a few times. I cry most nights in my bed. I don't want to die. But at the same time I don't want to be here. This is the part I really find hard to talk about.
I really don't know what to do!!
Can anyone help? -
Re: Depression Help!
Sounds like you're going through a really tough time

Not wanting to die doesn't mean you aren't depressed. It's actually fairly common for people to be stuck in a state where they don't particularly want to die, but don't particularly want to live either. It really is as simple as that! The rational part of you knows that getting better is the best possible option, even though a part of you just wants to give up.
The best thing you can do is go and see your GP. Write down a list of the symptoms you've been experiencing if you're worried that you'll forget something, be too scared to talk, or won't explain it properly. Asking for help is the most difficult thing, but it will get easier! Your GP will be able to assess your condition and discuss appropriate avenues of treatment with you. Most doctors will initially refer you for talking therapy, but in severe cases may offer you anti-depressants fairly early on. Anti-depressants help stabilise your mood, which in turn helps with your sleeping and eating, amongst other things. Your doctor will be able to help you decide which form of treatment will work best for you.
Come and talk to us in the Mental Health Support Society if you'd like, there are lots of people in there who have had experience with various mental health problems from depression to psychosis, and who will be able to give you advice and support

Re: Depression Help!As said, the GP is really the best port of call. Try and be very reflective and aware of things that have changed, and how different you are to your normal self. Everything you're experiencing, tell the GP. Don't leave anything out no matter how insignificant you think it may be. It really is good to go now so you can have some support and can stop feeling like this. Also take note of other things others (e.g friends, family) have noticed with you and any worries they might have and tell your GP all this. Your GP will then be able to suggest the best course of treatment if you're deemed to have depression. Also, don't run away! There's a great community here, use us!(Original post by Anonymous)
