Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hours
I agree with what ZazDogg says, you feel much closer to God as well. Normally, I just carry on as usual, time goes by fast when you're preoccupied with other things.
EDIT: Why the neg? All I'm doing is answering a question........Last edited by Starrstruck; 16-07-2012 at 19:38. -
Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursNo, you can't eat anything at all until you break your fast.(Original post by GreenLantern1)
Are you not allowedto eat abolutely anything during this time? Or are there some simple foods you can have? -
Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursEat or drink nothing from sunrise till sunset. We eat as soon as its over and also wake up early in the morning (like 3 am) to eat.(Original post by GreenLantern1)

Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursIt's the best month of the year for a Muslim. I really can't wait for it!(Original post by MUN123)
And do you carry on doing your day to day activities during the month of Ramdan?
Most people carry on doing day to day activities but I'm sure everyone increases in worship. It also brings families together. -
Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursFasting is pretty easy in the UK, its worse if your in a hot country, thirst is a killer there.(Original post by MUN123)

Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursIt seems pretty easy to be honest, plus it's very enjoyable, everything feels much less stressful, you don't have to worry as much, life feels more loved, more unity especially taraweeh prayers at the mosque.(Original post by MUN123)
Edit it's actually 19 hours no food or water.

It's really lovely to be honest, hard to explain, hunger goes somehow, we get used to it, many Muslims actually feel sad when it's over
it's around 4ish till 9:15 for the first day actually(Original post by ...mo...)
17 hours?
I live in the UK and to begin with its around 1:30 to 21:15 so more like 19 hours and 45 minutes I believe
Still it feels great. Especially around 21:15!!!

Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursWell you lose lots of weight, unless you eat like an animal when breaking the fast, if you sit around doing nothing its worse, so UIdecided to do some voluntary work at my college instead, which should be good for my CV and it will give me summat to do and not think about how hungry I feel lol(Original post by MUN123)

Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursYou can't eat anything, and to the OP, the fast lengths this year have a maximum length of almost 19 hours. The first day is a tiny bit difficult, but I have fasted every ramadan for the last 10 years, and it feels just fine. the high number makes it look impossible, but you have to understand that the vast majority of us will be sleeping for at least 6-10 hours of that time, using minimal energy for that period. I think if we weren't to sleep, then it would be significantly harder. But we do have to carry out our day to day activities as normal. My school was mostly muslim, people would still play football all lunchtime even though they were fasting, but those were the days where the fasts were pretty short. Some muslims also fast on alternate days of the whole year, though they are rarer to find.(Original post by GreenLantern1)

Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursI don't lol. Never felt or sensed any divine presence in my life even when I pray or fast etc... even though i'm Muslim. What does it feel like for you?(Original post by Starrstruck)

Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hourson the other hand, hot countries tend to be closer to the equator and therefore have shorter days.(Original post by Study)

Re: Muslims, how does it feel like fasting for 17 hoursthis is the opposite of what you should do. You should eat high protein foods, and little carbs. Protein takes longer to digest so gives energy over a longer period of time.(Original post by PrismaticCore)
Last year I had a regime of loads of starchy foods and about 2-4 litres of water.
It's very easy to go way out of control when fasting and just pig out on the wrong stuff.
If done right, it's not too bad as you get used to it.
