Universities which offer Economics at ABB?
Could someone tell me which good unis ask for ABB and a B in GCSE Maths and C in GCSE English for BSc Economics?
Looking to apply for 2013 entry I miss grades.
Note: I may get BBB, so that's why I'm looking at reapplying, I assume some unis won't accept resits at all, whilst other may increase their standard offer by 1 grade.
Many thanks. -

you can get both types(Original post by Jam')
Isn't economics normally BA? -
Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?Tbh, without an A level in Maths, it will be difficult for you to get an offer for a Bsc Economics course at most unis, due to the maths content. However, with a B in Gcse Maths it should be okay for BA Economics course.(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?University of East Anglia (UEA) also has an ABB requirement. They do not specify any A level subjects, and you can still apply without an A level in Maths. It is a BSc in Economics.(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?Liverpool want a B minimum in A-level Maths(Original post by rachaelizabeth)
University of Liverpool have a typical offer of ABB for Economics BSc. And their GCSE requirement is English - C and Mathematics - B.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Reading ask for a C at AS level Maths, so I might see how difficult that is to achieve during a gap year, and may self study that.
I will probably look at AAB, but because I'd only consider these options if I got BBB, I'm assuming a fair few ABB options would ask me for AAB as a result of a third year. -

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?Oh I do apologise, I wasn't 100% clear on what A level subjects you were taking. My other suggestion (UEA) does not require an A level in Maths from what I can see so maybe that's worth checking out.(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?Yeah, I may consider a BA or a joint honours instead. There's probably a reason why most ask for A-level Maths; wouldn't want to get there and realise I couldn't keep up with anything(Original post by rachaelizabeth)

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?For the record, self-teaching Maths (AS at least) isn't too difficult. I practically self taught it due to having a teacher that didn't know what she was talking about, and I know people that have taught the entire A level to themselves and achieved an A* grade. So if it does come down to that, it might not be so bad(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)

I have an offer or History and Economics from Manchester, but not sure if I've made the grade, so just planning or a disaster aha; convincing myself it won't be so bad

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?I attained an A* in GCSE (I can't remember the exam board, I'm afraid) and I am currently awaiting the results of my A2 in Maths, in which I hope to get an A (Exam board is AQA)(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)
What grade did you get in GCSE Maths? Which board?
Good luck with whatever you decide to do - hopefully you will achieve the grades that you need in the A levels that you've already studied.

What are you planning to study, and where? You sound like someone who's going somewhere special

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?I'm actually planning to do Maths, at Lancaster university. If I get the grades then I'll be going this September(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)
Thanks!

Just to clarify - I find maths quite challenging and I'm definitely not one of these people that it just springs naturally to, I have to work at it. So the judgement I offered about self teaching AS Maths isn't coming from a nerd that just "gets" it straight away...
Where are/were you hoping to go this year?

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?
You could try Nottingham? It would be a bit of a longshot though. Maths is a preferred subject but it's not required. I got an ABB offer from them this year.
Edit: Really you're going to neg me because I got a lower offer? Jealous much.Last edited by Purehakkai; 17-07-2012 at 00:35. -
Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?Ah, when you said A* and then near self teaching of AS Maths and not finding it too bad as a result of a rubbish teacher, I assumed you were one of those gifted types who could understand concepts quite easily.(Original post by rachaelizabeth)

Maths - great!
At least you're doing something worthwhile, not sure what I'm gonna end up doing with so many arts grads around. I'm hoping to go to Manchester to study History and Economics, so heading in the North-West direction like yourself
Really hope results aren't as bad as I think, the wait is so long compared to last year! Probably because they made us come back to start A2s until July, which meant just a 5 week wait.

Re: Universities which offer Economics at ABB?Not all BSc economics need A level maths, if the course does not state you need it then you don't need it.(Original post by samiz20891)
Tbh, without an A level in Maths, it will be difficult for you to get an offer for a Bsc Economics course at most unis, due to the maths content. However, with a B in Gcse Maths it should be okay for BA Economics course.
Though that would not mean that there is no math in the course, most have a fair amount, so if you've done A level maths , should be an advantage, if not then you do the prelim modules " maths for economists etc " to speed you up.
