do i have any chance of being an architect?
hi im 19 and currently at the end of year 13 sixth form, i got a B in A2 art and still waiting to get my other results (maths, photography) which im not really confident about. ive been in leeds (uk) for 3 years and my english is not very good unfortunately.
but i love architecture. considering that im 19, is it too late ? is there any chance that i will become a proper architect? if i can, how? please help

these are some of my drawing (they have got nothing to do with buildings but just want you to have an idea of how good or bad my drawing is):

You will obviously have to apply to an architecture BA, for that you will most likely need a minimum of BBB at A-level (possibly lower, but it will be to lower ranked universities). Also if you apply to courses with lower requirements make sure they are RIBA/ARB accredited, they have to be in order to take the exams needed to qualify as an architect.

Can I just ask how you know what you got in Art? Just seems a bit early. Being 19 isn't a problem at all, you can start whenever you want, some start much later in life so that's nothing to worry about. To qualify it takes at least 7 years, so that has to be considered. Your choices are probably fine, art is usually needed or helps when making portfolios, which you may need when applying. Ok so the process is fairly long have a look at the RIBA website, on the education section, it lays out how the process works and how long it takes etc.

I applied for architecture this year so I hope that helps with everything. If you want to know anything else just ask.

thank you very much for the time you put to reply princess.
i know i got a B cuz my teacher told me that he marked me a high B and he said that the moderator will also give me a B and there is no question in that lucky for me.
also i had already applied for architecture this year on ucas and i got four offers from huddersfield uni, leeds metopolitan uni, harrogate college and bradford college, and i passed all the interviews but i decided not to go because my cuzin who is studying at imperial college at the moment told me that even if you qualify in those universities, u will have a hard time finding a proper job because they are not high ranked unis, so i decided to stay at home for a year (cuz as you know, u can only take your choices once at ucas) but instead of doing "gap" year, study mechanics 1 and 2 + core 4 (again cuz i failed) and apply for a uni in london hopefully.
but to be totally honest with you i dont feel confident about my plans.
any advice or what ever you think you know that i might not know would be a huge help

If you weren't able to get into university, my advice would be apply for a college course in HNC Architectural Technology.

I done that, and actually opted to continue down the route of AT as opposed to actual Architecture. My mate from college, however, applied to do Architecture at Edinburgh University. He had to start from year one again, however if you have a passion for architecture and don't have the grades to get in directly from high school, then it's an alternative.

I wouldn't say you were too old either, I have folk in my uni course now who are around 30 and have came from fairly different backgrounds.

Ok, I thought you were going to say that. But don't be to certain that will be your end result, last year my teachers gave me a fairly high A in art, the moderators came in and agreed with all of their marks, so they thought they would stay the same. Come results day virtually everyone's had gone considerably down, mine was one of the worst, marked down by 22 UMS marks (basically a lot), making it a mid to low B instead. My point is your teachers shouldn't be telling you yet, if they had told me I would have been a wreck when I got my actual results.

Your cousin has a point, I didn't even realise Harrogate and Bradford did architecture so I doubt they are accredited. Well what are you expecting grade wise now/ if you do retakes? Because they are what is going to determine you getting into one of the best for architecture or a lower ranked university. There are some universities which may be lower ranked but are still fairly well received by employers (I don't know about London) LJMU is actually a fairly well received course (despite its ranking) and Birmingham City is supposed to be good too (but I never looked into that one). If your thinking of London it seems to me that Greenwich is really bad for architecture (they have a HUGE drop out rate, loads who fail or get 3rds, which are useless really and not very good student reviews). If you want to become an ARCHITECT then carry on perusing an architecture course, but on average I would say don't apply to somewhere where requirements are lower than BBB.

Students do find work from uni's that are'nt high ranked for various reasons, portfolio, personality, work needing to be done, etc. It's fair to say though that those uni's listed are way down the also ran list, virtually unknown, perhaps its different up north but I guessing these uni's would do your job prospects no favours. Even some of those uni's in London thought of as lower ranked hold a favourable and are known by many employers. Although you appear to do quite well at Art I would look into the Architectual Tech route as Sandy has already stated. I think Nottingham Trent is thought of quite well for Architectual Technology if your up north or look around for a decent course. Other than that 19 is still quite young for Architecture in general so you could always do a construction qualification, Btec, etc, and this could help you out both in applying and while on the course, too many people overlook the constuction side I think.

and here i was thinking im good at art if you went from A to low B, ill probably get a D star!
by the way, do you think its better to try and improve my grades or do an architecture course in a college? will i be able to go to uni agter college or is it just a waste of time?

my problem is that i dont know which courses i should take to be able to continue ARCHITECTURE at uni. i mean i dont know if i pick something like a foundation interior architecture, they will allow me to do the actual architecture at university afterward.

I'm not saying your not, its just that our teachers had a big shock on results day. I think last year on Edexcel was a particularly bad year for UMS being off so don't worry to much, just be aware of it.

I think its completely up to you and what you would prefer, they only thing is that universities may say that getting a foundation will improve your chances, but won't confirm that they will definitely give you a place with X grade and the A-levels you have (unless you stay on at the same place for the degree afterwards). Honestly I don't know as I have no experience in it but it think it depends what you get in A-levels for a start, then would be the time to ask universities what your chances are next year if you applied again.
