Best place in Europe to study for a semester?
I am from the United States and plan on studying (preferably business/finance but not necessary) in Europe for a semester (Sept-Jan) next year. I have been doing research on different schools/cities to study in and I have not come to any conclusion. A lot of people's opinions on this forum relate to studying at a school for 4 years rather than 4 months, and factor in prestige/job placement after graduation. I don't care about prestige/job placement and I will not be in the city for 4 months. With that said, I hope people can give me some imput on where a great place to study would be. As of now I know minimal/no language besides English.

I have considered Bocconi, Copenhagen Business School, NHH, Stockholm, RSM, but am open to literally anything else.

Opinions on those choices or other ideas?

If its only four months and you dont care too much for the other "important" factors I would say Portugal, its a great place for going out and for relaxing, the weather is great and the food is even better; almost everyone speaks english or at least understands it (younger people that is) and most business related courses have a lot of classes in english here.

I would say Stockholm or London.

If money is a factor, would you still say Stockholm?

A lot of European universities teach their courses in English, actually. You'd need to know the local language outside of class, obviously, but you could always get friends to teach you/translate, and if you go to a big city/touristy area, you might be able to get away with just English, but I doubt it. That said, learning a language is an amazing skill and something that will benefit you for years. (I'm totally not saying this just because I'm studying German, of course not :getmecoat: )

@OP, chances are your university will have a list of European universities they're linked to. It might be best to start with that list, as getting you into those unis will be much easier than forging new links with another one. There are plenty of business schools in Europe, though, so you should be able to find one easily. Speak to one of your lecturers, they should know who to point you to.

You'll also need to consider your budget - many European unis have no tuition fees, or very low ones, but you'll also need to live there, and sort out visas etc. Also, why exactly do you want to go abroad for a semester? Just for fun? To experience a new lifestyle? What sort of environment do you want to go to? These are all questions you'll need to consider.

In terms of specifics, I'd say somewhere near Frankfurt-am-Main, because I know that's a very business-filled area in Germany. Lots of international businesses have their European HQ's there, apparently. That's all I can think of, though.

Tough call as Sweden can be quite expensive in some things but I wouldn't say it was significantly more expensive than London to be honest.

I would say portugal as well... Search for Coimbra. I studied there for 4 years and were the best days of my life.

It's not expensive, it's the best University in Portugal (and one of the oldest in Europe, if that counts for something)... and you have the best of Academic traditions over there... you will neve get bored.

Not to mention the weather and the good food.

    Give it a thought

Germany Make sure you speak good German though first, then you can live with Germans and have a much better time

Edinburgh or Dublin. UK and Ireland are more expensive than Southern Europe, but then we also speak English. Although to be fair, in Holland and Sweden you can very easily live without speaking any of the local language, because 90% of people speak English.

I might be biased but I second this

I know, we've already got enough rankings on this world but it was ranked as the eigth best student city in the world. There have been four categories (student mix, affordability, employer activity and quality of living) and if you strike out employer activity (for four months this will hardly be of any importance) Berlin would come out in the top three.

Anyhow, Berlin is known to be one of the most affordable European capitals and to have one of the (if not the) best nightlifes in Europe. Germans are also known to be quite good at English (maybe not the guy selling you sausage in the streets, but all of your fellow students will speak it).

German universities offer a lot of English courses but these are mostly selective.

The normal course language is German.

Prague is a relatively cheap place, many internationals live there for some months. The university is not really good yet and underfunded to be competitive, but it's the oldest in continental Europe.
