It'll probably be the first Tuesday and Wednesday in October which I think is the 2nd and 3rd. There'll be different stalls each day (though some will be at both) so I'd advise you to go to both (this is assuming you'll be a fresher then). A list of which societies will be there each day will be published sometime in September probably, on the DSU website.

Well, now that lectures don't start til the next Monday, it could be any time, really! But definitely within that first week of October.

I should probably stick a "What happens in Freshers Week" post onto my FAQ, because I think we're going to get asked about it repeatedly in the next couple of months...

You have a good point there...and yeah, that'd probably be a good question for the FAQ.

*is scared thinking that it's 3 years since we were in their position...*

I've heard from a pretty reliable source that freshers may have lectures all week during freshers week this year (depending on subject)... finding it hard to believe myself but hey, I'm just glad I personally get the whole week free this time around

Nnnooooo. They can't be regular lectures (otherwise that's not a Freshers Week, and I will personally attack our DSU President until he pressures the university to change it), and there's no way a department can think up extra things to talk to the students about. That's absolutely **** if it turns out to be true.

I think it may be true, president at my college had confirmed it twice now, so unless he's totally wrong...
I agree with you, it's awful. Bad enough last year when we had lectures on the thursday and friday, let alone the whole week!

Waaaaiiit - the official university term events dates page says that "Michaelmas Term begins for second and final year students" the Monday after 'Induction Week', with "Lectures begin" at 9:00am.

It seems ridiculous that there's no information whatsoever available about 'Induction Week'.

It is interesting that all the universities I applied to referred to freshers week, all except one that is, that institution referred to arrival on freshers sunday and then an induction week. Guess which one that was....

I understand that the vast majority of students are very keen to experience their freshers week, personally after 30 years of burning the candle at both ends, my wick is now of limited size and I need to make it last 3 years, so a few lectures would suit me fine.

Yeah I've seen that. But that does only say for second year and final year, nothing about first years. The website is so useless haha

Ohh. I misread that as "second and first year students", instead of "second and final year students".

But yeah, websites leave so much to be desired. While I'm looking up things for Greenspace, or to answer questions here, I'm constantly coming across broken links and awkward page design.

On the plus side, there is a helluva lot of information up there. For all the complaints I make about CIS, they do tell us a lot if we just look for the information.
