Re: Medicine 5th option help !I have looked at the bio med and pharmacy courses and they don't interest me(Original post by 16dan2life)
Most get offers for Pharmacy/Optometry/Biomed science with a medicine PS
If you get 5 rejections(god forbid), then you can go into ucas extra and change your PS then apply to a relevant course(whether that be physiotherapy or anything else).
With Pysio you get similar patient contact to being a doctor and I think it would benefit me if I did do grad entry medicine. But would I get in with a med ps ?

Re: Medicine 5th option help !Correct me if i'm wrong, but I'm sure most study Biomedical science at university then apply for medicine(somehow?), but this will take a long time.(Original post by CameronLee)
I want to be a doctor, but I'm using physio as a way to get into grad medicine If I don't get in this year

Re: Medicine 5th option help !You probably would get in tbh, admissions tutors will recognise your strong grades and most likely give you an offer/interview.(Original post by CameronLee)

As I said before, don't stress if you get no offers, just change your PS into a physiotherapy one then apply to 5 uni's for physio at UCAS extra(march time). -
Re: Medicine 5th option help !Yeah most people do bio med , but I don't want to be at uni stuck in a lab for 3 years + Grad entry med is more competitive. Yeah It will take a long time if I do it either way(Original post by 16dan2life)

Hopefully I'll get an offer though

Re: Medicine 5th option help !Yep you're right(Original post by swbp)
I'd suggest applying for biomedicine or pharmacy. Two of my friends got 5 rejections from medicine and ended up getting onto biomedicine at Sheffield and pharmacy at Bath through UCAS Extra, so still got into very good universities

What do you think you got for AS levels and GCSE's? -
Re: Medicine 5th option help !I understood that from your OP, but what if you don't get into Medicine as a graduate and are stuck which a Physiotherapy degree?(Original post by CameronLee)

Re: Medicine 5th option help !Yeah , I'd prefer it to doing bio med though and being stuck in a lab for the rest of my life !(Original post by Wileyyy)

Re: Medicine 5th option help !I think I should have got AAA at AS level and my gcses were mediocre(Original post by 16dan2life)

Re: Medicine 5th option help !You don't have to do lab work after doing Biomedical Science, my peers have gone on to Medicine, Dentistry, Masters, PhD, Sales, Banking, HR, Clinical Trials, Nursing, Teaching etc. You've got options after doing BMS in comparison to Physiotherapy which is a vocational degree and your choices will be limited.(Original post by CameronLee)
Yeah , I'd prefer it to doing bio med though and being stuck in a lab for the rest of my life ! -
Re: Medicine 5th option help !From what I've heard from my friend who's applying for physio, it's actually pretty competetive, and with a med ps you might find it very risky, and a risky fifth choice isn't really the point of a fifth choice.(Original post by CameronLee)
HEY !
What I'm thinking of doing is applying to 4 med courses and a Physio course as my 5th at Birmingham if I get 4 rejections.
Would a med personal statement be a disadvantage of applying ? + would doing physio be beneficial if I was to then do grad entry med ?

Re: Medicine 5th option help !4/5 at my sixth form applied to medicine and all had 5/6A*'s+ at GCSE and 4/5 A's at AS level........all got rejections, apparently they were "clones"(harsh imo), all of em had top academic grades and work experience.(Original post by CameronLee)
I think I should have got AAA at AS level and my gcses were mediocre
Most of them changed their PS and applied for Engineering/economics at top 10 uni's and got offers.
I think 1 kept their optometry offer(5th option)
So it could be risky -
Re: Medicine 5th option help !Yh but I don't think OP should stress if they got 5 rejections, wouldn't they stand a good chance at UCAS extra with a relevant PS and straight A's(AS) and 3 A grade predictions for physio?(Original post by HopefullyMedic)

Re: Medicine 5th option help !
I think you'll probably find that physio is as competitive as medicine!
My advice would be to apply for medicine, with biomed or a science course as your 5th choice. If you don't get a medicine offer and get AAA/A*AA, (depending on where you wish to apply), are really 100% committed, have a gap year, make your application stronger and reapply. -
Re: Medicine 5th option help !I don't know - I'm no expert. But from what I've heard from my friends and teachers, physio is vastly oversubscribed.(Original post by 16dan2life)
Yh but I don't think OP should stress if they got 5 rejections, wouldn't they stand a good chance at UCAS extra with a relevant PS and straight A's(AS) and 3 A grade predictions for physio?
In my opinion, with three As at A level you may as well reapply for med, not spend three years doing a whole degree to then go for grad med which is twice as competitive.
With Pysio you get similar patient contact to being a doctor and I think it would benefit me if I did do grad entry medicine. But would I get in with a med ps ?
