How can I find temporary work?
I have 2 and a half months left of summer holidays and really want some temporary work (even just for a few days). I just have a-levels, and work experience in a shop and architect's office.
I have applied to loads of jobs, but does anyone have good experience with any temp agencies and could recmnd them?
ie working as catering staff for an event or something?
thanks

Maybe just disregard looking for temporary work as I presume your best opportunity would have been for the Olympic period, but it's a bit late now, however, just apply to any available jobs and (I know it's not a great idea) but just leave when you return to education or what ever it is you'll be doing? But make sure it's official, so you can ask for a reference in the future

Re: How can I find temporary work?
I'm looking for summer work too, but I also want to carry on on weekends once term starts. Do you think it'd be ok to apply to permanent jobs and then ask to change hours? Would employers be ok with that (e.g. Greggs or someone)?

Re: How can I find temporary work?
If you search for 'hospitality agency' and then your location, then it should come up with various temping agencies that give work for things like events. A few ask for experience, but a lot don't care so long as you have a pulse and turn up to their training session, so it's worth applying to any that you come across which operate in your area. It's very much something that you can dip in and out of, and agencies will always take you back on in subsequent university holidays (especially as Christmas is busy with functions, and there tend to be a lot of summer weddings and outdoor public events)
I've worked for a few different agencies, and I've discovered that they are all pretty much the same, although some seem to have more work going than others. It's common practice to be registered with several agencies at once, which means that you get more work. They ring you up and say "can you work on Friday 6-12pm" so it's fine to refuse a shift because, say, another agency has offered you work. Essentially, you work at times that are mutually convenient. -
Re: How can I find temporary work? Not really - all you do is that you don't tell the employer that you're going to uni in September (don't put it on your CV, hope they don't ask, and if they do ask then lie about having a gap year or somesuch). I've just got a "permanent" job which I will leave in September, when I return to uni. They won't be happy, but I have agency work to fill the gap in my CV so I won't need a reference from them.(Original post by Femto)
I'm in a similar position to the OP. I'd love to get a temp. job at the moment (I've just finished year 13) but to be honest, it's a bit late really isn't it?
