    Why do you care?

Be satisfied in yourself? I'm not saying be a social hermit and not go to parties but don't waste your life on it. There's nothing you're missing out on. These people aren't intelligent for the most part and therefore don't have the opportunities to achieve what you can so they waste their time making up for that deficiency, it's great short term, but what happens when everybody hits the real world?

You shouldn't feel above these things, but you should really not feel any interest in going blowing a hole in your wallet by spending it on alcohol. Sometimes a night out or a party can be fun, but not all the time, if you don't feel confident, do something about it, but don't worry abiout the fact that on Facebook you see hundreds of pictures of people "having fun" and all that, because the chances are, if they have time to remind everybody else of it and take that many pictures, they're really not.

I know you never mentioned it but this is usually one of the main reasons these threads escalate, if you look at my Facebook I've left the house once this summer, when in reality I've just not really had the time to take pictures of all my awesome days out and all the awesome things I've done, and quite frankly I don't care, who do I need to show?

There is some deep rooted arrogance in this post.

If you think it is "so true" you obviously think you fall under the bracket of an intellectual who worries and over thinks.

Rather than the self-confident morons who bounce through life like a bubble, thinking they're made of Kevlar.

Nah I don't think you can define an intelligent/stupid person in the first place.

The more intelligent you are, the more you can comprehend how miserable the world truly is. Ignorance is bliss.

Unless you're mega rich and you can buy your happiness.

No one seems to know how to be happy anymore and instead we all waste our time feeling sorry for ourselves. Life is what you make it, we all need to put a bit more effort in in order to have a better outcome

    Agreed.
You sound pretty confident in yourself to me.
I mean stating that you feel 'above' doing these things which you consider 'less intelligent' people to be doing doesn't exactly scream of insecurity.

It applies to some people and not to others. It can't be applied to every person.

    Re: Who agrees with this?
I think there is probably some truth in Bukowski's statement, even though it's obviously a massive generalisation. It makes sense that intelligent people, who tend to overthink and analyse everything, also overthink and analyse themselves and their own abilities and end up doubting themselves.

However, I don't think you can blame a lack of social skills and confidence on your intelligence. That's just an excuse to avoid actually doing something about those things. I'm massively insecure, but I try to force myself to be outgoing and to put myself into situations where I don't necessarily feel comfortable, because I want to increase my confidence.

So while you might be more likely to doubt yourself the more intelligent you are, intelligence and confidence are by no means mutually exclusive. Just try to be the best possible version of yourself. Also, feeling that you're 'above' things like partying perhaps isn't the best attitude if you want to make more friends... Not enjoying them is fair enough, but there's no need to look down on other people! Again, partying and intelligence are not mutually exclusive.

I disagree. In my opinion for a person to be successful in an particular area they have to be confident in their ability so if they were so full of doubts it would be unlikely for them to progress further in their career path as they probably wouldn't want to carry on with whatever they're doing and wouldn't think they're capable of doing anything. I suppose being confident makes a person more determined to achieve their goals and so they're committed and are willing to overcome any obstacle in their way in order to achieve that level of success they desire and so this confidence eventually leads them to success.

I agree that it is a vacuous platitude if that counts.
