Sometimes, I don't feel like i deserve a better job
I'm currently working in retail but looking to move on
I'm thinking of accountancy due to their excellent job prospects but I have only got a 2.2 degree from a top university.
I feel like I am terrible in writing essays and from what i've seen in university, my revision skills are terrible. My concentration in university was also far worse than it was back in a levels
I want to be able to move on and progress, but i feel like i dont have the skills or knowledge to actually do it and i feel it sometimes hinder my job applying because i think what's the point?
just wanted to get it off my chest -

Hey, don't let the past bring down your future. Unis not necessarily the best way to judge yourself, it works out differently for different reasons. Some enjoy their subjects more and so are more motivated, some less so and so on.
Ultimately, accept that you'll not be brilliant at what you do. But no one will expect you to be. Do your best to learn as much as you can within your job and substitute what you lack for with effort. A person very close to me did this, they left school with not a single GCSE, had six kids, and at age 32 when faced with a partner who's only use was losing money, took up a course at a fairly rubbish local uni part time. A few years on she was earning 25k, it's not the most in the world but it shows what you can do. You'll make mistakes and won't be good all the time, but that's fine. No one will truly mind, and you'll learn from it. So my advice, go ahead and apply, and give it a shot. If you're truly in self doubt, go in with the expectation you'll get fired on the first day. Don't care about the job. That way you won't think too much of it, and if you do get fired somewhere down the line, you'll be happy because you far exceeded your expectation of getting sacked on the first day.Last edited by AndroidLight; 16-07-2012 at 02:37. -
Re: Sometimes, I don't feel like i deserve a better job
Don't let your past ruin your future, not because your past is bad but because it is stopping you from going for the things you want to do. What is the point in NOT applying for the job? What is the worst that happens? They say "I'm sorry but no" and you try again.
You're already ahead of the game as you've decided that you're better than where you are now. So many people just get stuck in a rut of a job that they don't really like but it's easier to stay than leave.
If you're serious about the change and you put in the effort and dedication there is no reason that you shouldn't get on fine with it with a little bit of luck.
Good luck!
