Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)Judging by the bands you posted, you aren't into particularly heavy bands, so I'd suggest stuff like:(Original post by moorbre)
Anyone suggest a band I should get into, something like Avenged sevenfold/bullet for my valentine or Arch enemy
thanks
Pantera
Metallica
Anthrax
Megadeth
Devildriver
Lamb of God
Slipknot
You could always pop into the Rock and Metal Society. Some really great music gets posted there, both old and new.

First of all OP, stop listening to that trite, here's some real metal:
Death
Morbid Angel
Ufomammut
Sleep
Aspid
Megadeth
Black Sabbath
Agalloch
Alcest
Deathspell Omega
Darkthrone
Arcana Coelestia
Ne Obliviscaris
Between the Buried and Me
I've deliberately covered multiple subgenres instead of just running off with one, give you a feel for what the genre really has to offer.
DO NOT JUST IGNORE THIS POST, LISTEN TO THEM ALL AND FEEDBACK ME OP. -
Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)Honestly I would say let him go through his mainstream phase. While BFMV's quality is... debatable (crap) they're mainstream and accessible and he'll get over it soon enough. Who listens to Darkthrone before Linkin Park for example?(Original post by Betacra)

At least he's not listening to Brokencyde and Attack Attack!.
Anyway, my recommendations would be Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Architects, God Forbid, Mercenary, all the old melodeath greats like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity etc. Nothing wrong with starting slow.Last edited by tooosh; 19-07-2012 at 10:15. -
Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)I listened to black metal before I listened to Maiden. I never went through a phase of liking metallica and the other 'light' metal bands....though I've been liking LP on and off for about ten years now. Currently I am liking them, but only their newer material.(Original post by tooosh)

Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)You're in the minority tbh. Most people seem to go through phases before liking less accessible genres like black metal. If you can listen to it straight up, then more power to you but if you're in an A7X and BFMV phase then you probably won't be able to.(Original post by Manitude)

Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)
Not sure if I'm gonna get killed by metalheads for this, but here goes. When I started listening to A7X, Metallica, Killswitch Engage etc. I really got into the band Nightwish (not their recent stuff, really strange change they've made) and their first 5 or 6 albums. Not everyone's tankard of Warsteiner, but give them a listen!

Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)I do have one of their albums 'once', they are quite good, different then most stuff i have listened to, whats their best album ?(Original post by DontWantYourBloodMoney)

Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)My favourite album of theirs! My favourite songs of theirs are 'The Siren', 'Planet Hell', and 'I Wish I Had an Angel', all of which are from their 'Once' album, but check out the songs 'Wishmaster' from the album of the same name, and 'Bye Bye Beautiful' 'The Poet and the Pendulum' and 'Escapist' from their Dark Passion Play album.(Original post by moorbre)

Re: Recommend me some metal bands :)
Atreyu
Dream Theater
Stratovarius
Iron Maiden
Arch Enemy
Hell or Highwater
Machine Head
Death
Pantera
Shinedown
Rise Against
Slayer
That's quite a range of bands from the light rock of Rise Against to the band that lent it's name to Death Metal. There are a hell of a lot of other bands out there that I haven't had the pleasure of listening to yet, you can't go wrong with anyone here's suggestions really.
EDIT: I forgot about In Flames, one of the bands that really got me into metal, saw it one someone else's post and it triggered my memory.Last edited by Negaduck; 19-07-2012 at 15:26. -
