What makes my success even sweeter is I never had A-level maths when I started this degree and struggled a bit with it in year 1- for all you first years in this boat, if you're going through hell, keep going (it'll come good)!

Nope going into part D Of Civil Engineering, 5th year of my course (if you don't count the resit year).

Any advice to a prospective second year economics student as to how I can obtain such a grade?

Thank you What options have you picked? I presume you will take compulsory Micro, Macro and Econometrics?

This is my general, non subject specific advice to you:

1. Do all the readings, preferably before the lecture so you know what is being talked about. If something you don't understand comes up, go away and read about it!

2. Keep up to date with all tutorials, and practice them on a regular basis. Many subjects will use similar questions in the summer exam and/or coursework tests, especially Microeconomics! You will have Chris Wilson for the first semester in this and he is brilliant, make sure you practice all the test yourself and practice questions he hides in the lecture slides.

3. Don't take the view that coursework tests are only worth 20% or 30%. You can easily get 80%+ in all of these with a little work; make sure you hit this target and it will provide you with a buffer for the summer exams and take some pressure off (I went in there needing only 63% in everything to get a 1st overall). Many people find themselves playing catch up as a result of poor performance in these, but they are actually very easy to score some insanely high marks in.

I don't actually go to loughborough, just managed to come across this thread by chance lol thanks for your advice will be taking it very seriously.

When you say do all the reading, did you literally just read, or did you take notes? How did you go about note taking and revision?
