Re: No Claims Bonus?Correct, you need to have had a car, insured it and not made any claims. Also the NCB belongs to the main driver so you won't get one from being on your mum's policy.(Original post by h4mza)
Im 20 years old and i passed about a year ago and not driven since. So that means i don't have NCB.
Yes they both help to reduce your insurance price.(Original post by h4mza)
From what i have heard, the older you are, the cheaper you insurance gets, but does having NCB reduce the insurance price? -

Re: No Claims Bonus? Not strictly true.(Original post by mikeyd85)
Age does help, but not as much as NCB.
A 60 year old with 0 NCB will likely have a much lower insurance premium than someone with 2 years NCB at 19, for example.
And NCB pretty much 'maxes out' at around 5 years. Any additional years you gain after that doesn't really affect the premium a significant amount at all. -
Re: No Claims Bonus?
Last time I checked NCB give about 10% a year up to 70%, with 1 being about 30% (give or take) so 5 years to get the 70%; after 5 years you get 1% off until 75%.
However that being said there is normally young drivers premiums which gets reduced at 21 and removed at 25.
But a lot effects insurance, with the post code effecting it, as well as the colour of the car and countless other things so its very hard to compare insurance prices to someone living anywhere else, driving another car; unless they are your twin with the same car living next door. -
The colour of the car can affect premiums? Can anyone confirm this?(Original post by kumori)

Whenever you ask for a quote, the insurer doesn't ask for the colour of the vehicle. Are they getting that information from the vehicle registration?

oh it may be different now, I just checked my car insurance and it is not listed.
about 5+ years ago an insurance company said that silver cars are slight more to insurance, since they are stolen more often then say red cars. so im not sure if they still go off the colour.
after looking on google, apparently it have never effected car insurance since the do not even look at what colour it is.Last edited by kumori; 20-07-2012 at 18:52. -
Re: No Claims Bonus?Red, Yellow and Black are seen as sports colours for cars, not sure how it affects insurance. When quoting up various cars for me, the red car of the same model came up at the most. Saying that it was 6 months newer than the others. Same valuation bracket though.(Original post by Hustler-1337)

Re: No Claims Bonus?
Age will help premiums a bit, but the main facter (at least for me) is how long i've had my license.
Forgot to put 2 in for no. of years had license in a recent quote and it was about £3500, put in i had 2 years on my license (no NCB) and it changed to £907. NCB will help but having held your license for longer seems to help the most. -
Re: No Claims Bonus? How? I believe you, but surely just holding a license but not actually driving doesn't make you a better or safer driver at all(Original post by Phantom Shadow)

Re: No Claims Bonus?Suppose its just on statistics those who have had they're license for 2 years have usually been driving still and more experienced.(Original post by james1211)
