    Mathematics PGDE
    Hi there,

I'm basically in a difficult situation at the moment. I am in my final year at university studying Mathematics and have very much wanted to teach at a secondary school for a long time. So I am hoping to apply to get on a PGDE course starting in 2013.

However, I do not have higher English or any equivalent qualification relating to this. I understand this is a prerequisite for the PGDE course. My problem is that would studying higher English at a college whilst studying at university be a wise choice? My advisor says it could be too much work. Or would studying English next year alone be more recommendable? There is also the money issue as well, gaining extra highers outside of secondary school can be expensive.

I wouldn't imagine also that any university would accept people without this qualification? Thanks for anybody who can help.

Your best beet would be to ring and talk to the actual university themselves. they would be the only ones to know what they'd accept.

I phoned the University of the West of Scotland a few days ago. They were the only university that answered the phone. The woman on the phone was really strict on the English qualification, so I can't imagine any other university letting me of the hook lol.
