I wanna write a blog....So yeah I want to write one, but I don't know what I should do it on? I want to do one that appeals to a lot of people. I'm a 16 year old girl going off the sixth form soon if that helps? If you ever read blogs what do you want to read about? I all for entertaining people and yes I know there are lots of people in the world so different people like different things but I just want to know the main majority
Thanks in advance

Re: I wanna write a blog....Don't try appealing to the masses, write about what interests you. Maybe an analysis on how you found your final year of high school, what you think of beauty youtube channels or why you like listening to Coldplay. Those are some ideas.(Original post by Whostolemycookie)

Re: I wanna write a blog....
I like blogs where people talk about their lives; what interests them, funny stories about things which have happened to them, music that they love, photos of places they've visited, etc. It's cool when you've been reading someone's blog for a while and you almost feel as if you know them
Blogging is all about personality imo.

Re: I wanna write a blog....
Get fit, and then write a fitness one.
I was once an overweight kid, now i'm the British Amateur Middleweight Boxing champion. I have a record of 15 fights, 15 wins, 14 by way of knockout. If I was to write a blog, it'd be about how I transformed my life.
Perhaps you could do something similar?

Re: I wanna write a blog....
I've done freelance writing for about 3-4 years now, and both before and during that I've also started, written for and sold a couple blogs. My one piece of advice is this: write about something that interests you. Unless you're getting paid per post, never write about something that you think will be of interest to others but that doesn't particularly interest you.
For a blog to be successful your content has to be unique, it has to have flair, it has to convey your passion (which results in deeper knowledge and more commitment). More than that, for the project to stay afloat for more than a few weeks, you'll need to be interested in what you're writing about. It's easy to force yourself to keep going if there's an immediate pay-off (which is how I've been able to write over 10,000 words on keywords such as "commercial carpet cleaning"), but blogging is a long-term thing. Very few people end up making any money for it, so if that's why you're doing it.. consider writing gigs instead. Many more manage to build a small but passionate group of dedicated readers and a friendly little community around their blog - if that's enough for you, then by all means do it! But don't ask us what we want you to write.
If you have any questions about becoming a freelance writer I'd be happy to answer those as well.
EDIT: Just read the post above mine (posted while I was writing this) and would like to add: if you go for that idea, don't start once you're fit - start while you're getting there! I saw a site ages ago where a flabby guy decided to get fit and would take a pic of himself every week. He's done it for years now and is a complete beefcake. Not sure he did much in the way of interesting writing, however, at least not at the start.Last edited by Salgoud; 16-07-2012 at 22:21. -
Re: I wanna write a blog....
Average 'blog' formula these days:
Step one: amass a collection of erroneous pictures, gaudy fashion snaps and pop culture animated gifs
Step two: Arrange said collection into artsy, pretentious format.
As Luxray pointed out, be original and have fun with it. Detatch yourself from other people's blogs and what you think you're supposed to write about and post what you want, what you would want to read. Be bold and be unique. -
Re: I wanna write a blog....
Most blogs are like opinion columns. Just write regular pieces on your take on various topics. It can be any topic, unless you're targeting a particular audience. But if you want to write a blog, I'd advise just writing one, get into the habit, and two months down the line, if you're still going, then tailor to an audience for followers maybe. The key is to start writing, and keep writing. A blog is a broadcast, you stop and its over.

Thank you all for your advice, I will definitely take everything in consideration. Just one more thing should I make it informal or formal and how should I write it in terms of style

Re: I wanna write a blog....Wrong! You got it wrong. Do not try to appeal the masses. You should write about what YOU LIKE. There are thousands of thousands of blogs appealing to the masses so you won't be noticed. Be original. Be yourself.(Original post by Whostolemycookie)

Re: I wanna write a blog....
I rarely read other blogs, but I just keep on posting to mine
But I like blogs that follow people's lives (which is kind of what mine does, but then I ramble), as long as they're doing interesting stuff anyway.
I use wordpress, which can be a pain to set up but I got angry with blogger and I just don't post to tumblr for some reason. O.o
Definitely write about what you like, just keep on writing and writing and eventually people will find you (I get some very strange search terms from google) and maybe they'll come back.
