Pokemon Online is a free to download Pokemon battle simulator where you choose your Pokemon, customise your team and battle others on servers all over the world. On TSR we are setting up a challenge where members create a team of Pokemon and challenge gym leaders to collect badges and eventually become a member of the TSR Elite 4!

We're looking for more people to become gym leaders and for members to post a challenger team to take the gym leaders on. If you're interested, please post either the type of gym you would like to be a leader for with the Pokemon for that gym and/or a challenger team to compete for gym badges.

The rules for the gym are simple - you can select 8 Pokemon of a type, including one wildcard. A wildcard is a Pokemon not of the same type of the gym but has certain characteristics that fit the gym (e.g Gyarados for a Dragon gym, Solrock for a Fire gym etc).

The rules for a challenger team are even simpler - you can choose any Pokemon you like in your team unless they are considered 'Uber'. This list consists mainly of the overpowered legendary Pokemon (e.g. Reshiram, Mewtwo, Kyogre etc) and specific Pokemon including Garchomp, Excadrill and Thundurus. All gym matches will take place under Smogon rules; this means no OHKO moves, no evasion boosting moves and so on.

As of 16/07/2012, the current gyms we have leaders for are:
Dragon - Gofre
Flying - Welsh Leprechaun
Fire - Alofleicester
Poison - Flyteryder

I know I was playing with a pure fire team the other day, swapped in a Blaziken and when I clicked Find a Battle, came up against a team including Kyogre and Rayquaza Needless to say I was no match.

This is done over the internet, so you don't need a DS for this.

Can someone just briefly tell me how long it will take for me to understand how to use this? do I need my DS? or is this all based on the computer?

I've just been playing around with it (but forgot to save the team I designed due to sheer noob-ness) and I do like the idea. I'm probably in if this is going to go ahead, although I won't be very good at it.

You just need the software. All you do is connect to a server and challenge someone to a battle.

Speaking of which, is someone going to host a server or are we just going to play on some random empty one?

Not sure maybe the OP will be hosting a server? Although I've just noticed that the server named "Skitty City" is empty
