Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!
Hm, would Hippowdon class as a legitimate wildcard for my water-type gym? Thinking of the real word, hippos obviously live in/around water, but the in the pokéworld it 'lives in dry areas such as deserts'. I think I know what I'll use instead, but it'll mean I've gotta reassess the rest of my team... *sigh*

Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!
Ok, lots of people getting involved, that's good
lots of questions to answer too
First of all, this is the list of people who have said they want to be a gym leader (in order of posting):
Xenite - Water
Dobrzynski - Electric
Lukas1051 - Grass
Spider Pig - Steel
Addzter - Psychic
Chris_K_93 - Dark
JordanS94 - Fighting
Unfortunately, this means the Dark gym has already been taken Rickkkkk, but there are plenty of gyms left. Also, When you see it..., do you want to be the gym leader for the Normal type gym? Luxray, you'll be able to be a gym leader of you want as long as there's a type of gym left.
Second, by 'overpowered legendaries' I meant to differentiate Pokemon such as Rayquaza from Pokemon such as Mesprit, sorry if that wasn't clear. There is a list of the 'Uber' Pokemon on Smogon, but you will also find that certain Pokemon and/or certain abilities are automatically banned from the default OU setting.
Third, I won't be hosting a server for the gym battles myself because a) I don't actually know how and b) I don't have Pokemon Online myself. The most popular servers are Pokemon Online's own and Smogon University, but we could find an empty server if people want to.
Finally, a gym is made up of 8 Pokemon, but you will only battle with 6. The reason for this is to allow for a little variety between gym battles, otherwise they'd be the same for every challenger. You CAN have 8 Pokemon all of the type of the gym, but it is also a good idea to have one wildcard just so that gyms are not too easy to beat. The wildcard will have to fit for the gym, however. -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans! It's eight including the wildcard, so you'll need to scrap one =P(Original post by Chris_K_93)
Forgot to choose a wildcard so here is the updated team:
Tyranitar
Bisharp
Cacturne
Drapion
Houndoom
Hydreigon
Umbreon
Weavile
Wildcard: Gengar
Rotom-F is an actual Ice Type this gen, so I don't think RJ will have any issues with that (:(Original post by MattM123)
Rotom-F (Is that allowed? -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!
More gym leaders:
Dr Tenacious - Bug
MattM123 - Ice (As Gofre said, Rotom-F is Electric/Ice, so that's fine for an Ice gym.)
To Xenite - Hippowdon's fine with me as a wildcard choice for the Water gym.
To Dmon1Unlimited - The Water gym's taken anyway I'm afraid, but there's no-one stopping you from having a Magikarp on your challenger team (why you would is beyond me though
)
I'll update the OP with the longer list of gym leaders and I'll start including the Pokemon for each gym too. -

Sorry Houndoom, it's probably for the best.
Team:
Tyranitar
Bisharp

Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!It is no Uber tier Pokemon according to Smogon, so this means you WILL be able to use legendaries like Celebi, Mew and so on.(Original post by lukas1051)
So what are the rules exactly? Is it no Uber tier pokemon (acccording to Smogon) or is it no uber tier and no legendaries? Would I be able to have Celebi on my team for example?
Once we have a leader for each type of gym, people can post a challenger team to take on ALL of the gyms. Choose your challenger team wisely - for example, a generic Rain team might be able to sweep past 12 gyms, but against the Electric or Grass gyms you will struggle, and to become a member of the TSR Elite 4, you MUST defeat at least 16 gyms.
Once a challenger team has defeated 16 gyms, they will be entered into the TSR Elite 4. However, there can only be 4 members in the Elite 4. If there are already 4 members in the Elite 4, you must challenge one of the existing members - if you defeat them, you will take their place in the Elite 4.
I'm still deciding on what the Ultimate Challenge should be and who should be in charge of it, but I'll sort that after we have our gyms and a decent number of challengers. -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!No - only the gym teams have to be monotype, challenger teams can be any type with any Pokemon that are not considered Uber.(Original post by ThatGuyPsy)
Wait - So if I challenge one of the gym leaders, my team has to be essentially monotype?
Smogon's rules include:
Species Clause - A player cannot have two Pokemon with the same National Pokedex number on a team. For example, using a team with two Koffing would break this clause. Using different formes on the same team, such as Rotom-W and Rotom-C, also breaks the clause since they share the same Pokedex number (#479).
Sleep Clause - You lose if, at the end of your turn, two of your opponent's Pokemon were put to sleep by a move you used but were not forced into, and neither have had their sleep removed since then. The clause basically means that if you have already put a Pokemon on your opponent's side to sleep and it is still sleeping, you can't put another one to sleep. A move you were "forced into" is a move you must use because all other moves (that cannot inflict sleep) are disabled (by Choice item, Encore, or some combination of Taunt, Disable, Torment, and lack of PP) and you cannot switch (due to trapping moves, trapping abilities, Ingrain, or having all other pokemon be fainted). A move you used includes moves called by Metronome, Sleep Talk, Assist, Me First, or Copycat. It does not include Magic Coat or Magic Bounce. Rest, used by either player, is never counted by this clause.
Evasion Clause - A Pokemon may not have the moves Double Team or Minimize in its moveset, or hold the items Brightpowder or Lax Incense. Generally, this rule will be automatically enforced in simulator play. In Wi-Fi play, a player is considered to have broken the clause when a Pokemon is revealed to have been brought into the battle with a banned move or item.
OHKO Clause - A Pokemon may not have the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold in its moveset. Generally, this rule will be automatically enforced in simulator play. In Wi-Fi play, a player is considered to have broken the clause when a Pokemon is revealed to have been brought into the battle with a banned move.
Drizzle + Swift Swim is banned, Pokemon with the ability Moody are banned, and the Pokemon in the Uber list are banned. Apart from these, you can have whatever you like as a challenger team.Last edited by R.J. Omega; 19-07-2012 at 17:37. -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!We have to stick to singles I'm afraid - if doubles battling becomes popular, we'll set up a doubles league as per Gofre's idea in the Pokemon Society III thread.(Original post by MattM123)
Just been having a practise and i've remembered how terrible the ice type is at being defensive!
Also, if you're a gym leader do you have to do singles battles or can you insist on doubles/triples when people challenge you?
lots of questions to answer too
I can't save them
