Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!It doesn't matter, as long as the Pokemon is of the type of the gym (unless it's the wildcard).(Original post by Mouth)
I assume If I'm a gym leader, they will all need to have at least primary in the chosen type? So not secondary, unless it's the wildcard?
For example, for a Rock gym, a Rock/Water Pokemon is fine, and a Water/Rock Pokemon would be fine as well. -

Edit: I wont take a team just yet actually, realised I'm really busy and don't even know how to play.
Oh this looks complicated :PLast edited by Mouth; 19-07-2012 at 18:10. -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!
I've actually had a change of heart, I think I'll go in solely as a challenger, gonna try and be the first to get an E4 spot =P
So yeah, Dragon is up for grabs guys.
@RJ, do challengers have to pick an 8 poke roster too? Or is it just a 6 man team we pick? I assume these will be submitted to you like gym leader teams either way, to stop people building teams around beating each individual gym. Also, do what happens team-wise upon becoming a member of the E4?
Alternatively, like I said before I'd be interested in the Ultimate Challenge spot, depending on what it ends up being.
EDIT: Regarding doubles/triples, as RJ has stated above I strongly advise going singles only for the main league. The three formats are radically different in terms of what does or doesn't work, a specially built doubles team will trounce a singles team shoehorned into that meta.Last edited by Gofre; 19-07-2012 at 18:01. -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!Edit: I'll leave your name from being a gym leader for the moment.(Original post by Mouth)
Ohhh that's helpful. I'll take ground then
I'll give you my team as soon as I can
Yes, challenger teams must be posted before taking on any gyms - challengers will pick 8 Pokemon for their challenger team, but, as with the Gym teams, they will be able to choose any 6 to battle with from their team.(Original post by Gofre)

Ok - when someone becomes a member of the Elite 4, their team will be unchanged when taking challenges from other people who want to become a member of the Elite 4.
However, when taking on the Ultimate Challenge, members of the Elite 4 will be allowed to exchange one Pokemon from their team for a Pokemon considered Uber. Once the Ultimate Challenge is over, win or lose, the Uber Pokemon must be switched back with the Pokemon it replaced for further Elite 4 challengers.
I liked the idea of the Ultimate Challenge being a team with no type restrictions with a maximum of 2 Ubers, only one of which can be used in battles that you posted in the Pokemon Society thread, I'll finalise it when we have all of the gyms filled though.
Edit: Just to confirm Gofre, you don't want to be the Dragon gym leader anymore?Last edited by R.J. Omega; 19-07-2012 at 18:13. -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!Okay. I think I know what my first one will be then.(Original post by R.J. Omega)
We have to stick to singles I'm afraid - if doubles battling becomes popular, we'll set up a doubles league as per Gofre's idea in the Pokemon Society III thread.

So you can try for the Ultimate challenge spot if you're a member of the E4? -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!
I just won my first online battle on pokemon online! I was using a rather simlpe baton-pass-stored-power strategy using:
Smeargle;
Ninjask;
Mew;
Umbreon;
Togekiss;
Espeon.
If I do take part in this I will not use such an easy strategy I just thought I would post to say that I can be the normal type gym leader, although it is hard to come up with a good strategy using only normal types, so I would have to be the 'easy' gym leader to initiate new challengers. -
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!Ok, I'll update the OP.(Original post by Gofre)
Yeah I'm giving up Dragon.
So you can try for the Ultimate challenge spot if you're a member of the E4?
Yeah, that's a good idea and I think this will work well - in the same way people who have beaten 16 gyms can challenge the members of the Elite 4, members of the Elite 4 can challenge the Pokesoc Champion.
Win against the Champion and you take their place, but if you lose you will still be a member of the Elite 4. If you are the Champion and you lose against one of the Elite 4, you will be demoted to the Elite 4 when the challenger takes your place.
I reckon the changing Elite 4/Champion members'll be pretty interesting

Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!Why does everyone like Blaziken? Is it not just average? I don't get why it is banned - is is some loophole that makes it invincible or something?(Original post by JordanS94)
hey are gym leaders allowed uber pokemon? just wondering if I can have a Balziken
-
Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!I think it is mainly the speed boost ability + high attack stat which makes it quite easy to sweep in OU.(Original post by When you see it...)

Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!Nope, everyone's on a level playing field (:(Original post by JordanS94)

Ah ok (: may I then propose that the first four people to get 16 badges become the E4, then those four play each other for the Champ position, and the fifth guy to complete the gyms take their place? Seems like the fairest way of doing it (:(Original post by R.J. Omega)

Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!
Got my fighting team ready
well just depends on if I'm allowed Blaziken
Machamp, Lucario, Gallade, Toxicroak, Poliwrath, Electivire, Heracross and Infernape
gonna be hard to beat since there is a lot of different types
I don't think my team has a weakness... e.g. flying

Re: Calling all Pokemon fans!
Ooh, seems very interesting. I've never played this before, is it worth being a gym leader? Downloading it now btw. If I were to be one I think I'd choose, from what is left, ground.
Not by the looks of things.(Original post by Insert_username)
got a leader for the dragon gym??
