Degree's are useful for subjects where you NEED to be taught, i.e. academic/research subjects. My brother did 3 days of an IT course, decided it wasn't for him, so quit, in the last 5 years, he's worked for 3 companies, the second, he was made IT support of the whole office, by himself at age 21, the most recent, he is IT manager for a company (~25k salary). He's very recently been headhunted to start up a company for a guy, and be the IT guy on the whole project after starting his own company and banking 18k in a year (I think ~10k profit). Without degree or paper qualifications (except BTEC IT) he's managed this, he knows to be desirable he needs the qualifications, but his argument is why, when he himself through experience can prove he knows his stuff, and knows more than many of the qualifications require.
With IT, job/practical experience is essential, if I was in your position, I would take the position, you won't have the chance again, you can go to university if things don't work out, but you'll always be able to put the experience down!
