Re: dumb computer problem. HELP..I'll assume you're using Windows. Just a note for the future, post your laptop brand and the operating system you are using so you'll get a better answer
Right Click on the System Tray (task bar on the bottom of your desktop), Click "Properties", go to "Notification Area" in the window that pops up, then go to "Turn System Icons On or Off"
Look through the list and find out if the battery Icon has been disabled.
