    New xbox?
Ok, I wasn't sure how to word the title, but hopefully this will make sense.

I was looking to buy my boyfriend an Xbox 360 for Christmas, and providing I get a job, I need to start saving now. But it just occurred to me that the Xbox has been out for years which probably means it's due for an upgrade. Whilst he'd be totally happy with an Xbox 360, specs wise, if there's a new one coming out in the next month, I'd rather see if I can get that than buying something lower spec.

I've heard rumours about the so-called 'Xbox 720' and I just want to check that it's not coming out soon, and you guys might know better than a complete newb to gaming like me? I saw rumours that were it was out for Xmas 2013, but is that pretty much definite?

    Thanks!

There shouldn't be another console until LATE next year. I could be wrong, but don't listen to the rumours.

Don't listen to the troll. Get him an Xbox. My girlfriend got me one and its the best present I've ever received.

Why is it better? Because it just is!

I'll probably get him FIFA. And maybe a Kinect.

All depends on whether I get a job. If I don't that plan's kinda scuppered anyway.

Ahahaha. Well. Just have to start cooking her dinner and maybe she'll get you one!

Or maybe I'm just an idiot by contemplating not going out in order to buy my boyfriend an Xbox.

I have an Xbox 360. Its soo awesome but yes a next gen Xbox will be coming out end of 2013 according to leaked legal documents. However.. support for the Xbox 360 will stay strong for some years after like sony did for PS2 for the first few years PS3 was out. So yeah you could get him one .

Kind of a crap time to be buying an xbox360 or a ps3 since the next generation of consoles will no doubt be coming out in the next year or the year after. I can't help but think you won't be getting the maximum value out of the money you've paid even though I know that support and new games releases for these current consoles will remain for at least another 4 or so. Maybe thats just me though :dontknow:

I disagree, it's the perfect time. The consoles themselves are cheaper/more reliable than ever, and after nearly 7 years for the Xbox and 6 for the PS3 there is a rich library of (now heavily discounted) great games to play. Playing even a fraction of them will keep anyone entertained for years. I can easily think of 50+ games from this generation that I would recommend to people.

Also anyone who buys a new console in the first year it comes out has more money than sense, so it's really at least two years before a normal person should consider upgrading.

That's what I figured - I know for a fact he doesn't care about the graphics and such - as long as it plays games. If I can get him a console which has FIFA and some variation of cricket on it, he'll be more than happy!

Yeah maybe its just me though, I'm more into online gaming which relies on there being as many people as possible. You can probably still get a good few years out of xboxlive if you get the console now, but I still think you're not going to be getting as much out of your money as say if you bought it 3-4 years ago which IMO would've been the best time to buy if there is such a thing. But thats not to say its completely pointless buying a console right now though.
