Speaker's Statement: Resignation
At the end of this month, I will have been Speaker of the TSR Model House of Commons for two years, which is far longer than I thought I’d do when I was elected in July 2010! It's been a lot of fun, but I think two years is enough so I just wanted to say: I’m off!
It has been a privilege to work with you guys over the past two years and I really think the Model House of Commons is a fantastic community to be a part of. The MHoC is full of interesting characters, from drug addicts to train fanatics and you all make up what is a diverse, sometimes boisterous but always entertaining community. I’ll still be around posting in the forum so I’m not leaving completely, but it’ll be good to leave the admin to someone else!
I will be starting a Speakership election to find my successor tomorrow and so I'll still be in the job for a couple more weeks, but I just wanted to say thanks for electing me in the first place and for putting up with me for so long!

Re: Speaker's Statement: Resignation
Sad to see you go, I've not been involved with the MHoC for long, but in my short time here I've been really impressed with the hard work you put in and I feel your successor will have an extremely hard act to follow. Thankyou for all the work you've put in to the MHoC.

Re: Speaker's Statement: Resignation
I'm also a very recent addition to the house, and so have not had to put up with you for as long as I might have. (thank goodness!
)
But jokes aside, in the short while that I have been a part of the Model House of Commons, it has been very clear to me that the role of speaker of this house is not a position that can be taken lightly. It has become rather apparent to me that the role of speaker is a role that takes extreme dedication, commitment and effort. A role that requires not only physical effort, but also loyalty, respect and love for the house, as well. And I think I speak for the entire Model House of Commons when I say that you have more than excelled in both regards, Metrobeans.
I would just like say thank you so much for the time you have given to this house, time which I'm sure has been greatly appreciated by all of us who find accommodation within it. I'm glad to hear that you'll be sticking around for a while longer, and so look forward to see you posting here in a non-speaker capacity in the near future.
Pogo

Re: Speaker's Statement: Resignation
I am very sorry to read your resignation Nick. You have been a great Speaker though we have disagreed on several occasions. It's hard to believe that the House has changed so much since you were elected as Speaker. I look forward to quizzing your potential successors in the election and also to seeing you debate.

Re: Speaker's Statement: Resignation
Nick WTF man. You wait until I leave Labour and then you decide to cross back to our side - you need to sort your priorities out son. This said you've been awesome and we all have man crushes on you (even the women).
I might stand actually
Even if just so I can write something deeply inflammatory about TCIT who will doubtless be standing XD -

Re: Speaker's Statement: ResignationWow! All the people I've looked up to since I've joined the MHoC & MUN are leaving. It's a real shame to see you leave - I'm sure it's because most of your PMs are from me! (only joking). As Rakas said, you have been an exceptional speaker and I commend and thank you for putting so much work in to making this a great place to be.
I'm going to leave it to everyone to run for Speaker this time, but if I'm still around in a few years, I may run for the position. If there's a lack of manifestos/volunteers, I may submit one just to see how many votes I get, or if I get lucky, get elected!
Be sure to tell the newly elected Speaker, Nick, how you run things around here/the system you use as it seems to work a treat.
Thanks again - you're just great!
