What's your biggest uni worry?
Discussion for current and prospective students about social life at university, societies, what stationery and bedroom items to buy and anything else relating to life as a university student.

Hahahaha, that very specific. Sounds like you're talking from experience :P -
Re: What's your biggest uni worry?
1 - Finance. Bit worried about living on so much less than what I'm used to (giving up my job to go to uni)
2 - Not making any friends. I'm a mature student, pretty introverted, don't get drunk and hate clubbing. Feel I will be in the minority!
3 - Not being able to hack it. There's a high attrition rate for student nurses and I've heard many horror stories. But I'm determined! -
What does that even mean? I'm confused..(Original post by Palatial Veranda)

Re: What's your biggest uni worry? When you say you didn't go out at all, do you mean it in a literal sense or just that you didn't go clubbing at all? Cause I'm perfectly fine with going down to the pub for a few drinks, I just don't want to go somewhere that is loud, cramped, playing music I don't like and there's an expectation of dancing.(Original post by Tabers)
I might have been lucky as I was put into a house with people who do not go out clubbing much so it may be harder than it was for me. I did not go out at all during freshers week. Some uni's have different events going on. Even where I was had a magicians/comedy hypnotist one night and there was really not a wide variety of events.
I should probably see if I can find any information about what my Uni is doing for Freshers Week.

Re: What's your biggest uni worry?
Basically not fitting in: I'm a bit older, I'm from the EU and the course I'm about to do is pretty far out of my comfort zone. Especially that last bit. I do worry about failing and not being as smart as my peers.
Oh and come to think of it, living in halls with other people. Living by myself I can do but being around other people (pretty much) 24/7 is going to be a challenge. -
Re: What's your biggest uni worry?I mean I didn't go clubbing. We went to a pub quiz one night and other nights we went down to the sea front and went into the arcades (to escape the fresher parent who wasn't our fresher parent and was trying to make us go out clubbing). We all mixed and socialised without the need to go out clubbing. You can't really talk to people if you go out clubbing as the music is way too loud.(Original post by RedDevilThing)

Re: What's your biggest uni worry?Weird and awkward people always have tonnes of friends at uni, you will be fine! You are all gonna have just the best time ever, I have only spent one year at uni and dropped out for a multitude of reasons but it was definitely the best year of my life so far. I am planning on going back in 2013, already cant wait(Original post by Pen Island)
Not making friends really is such a big worry for me... I'm too damn weird and a bit awkward
Other main worry is sharing a flat with all females... Sounds weird but I just find it easier to talk to and get along with guys
Other worries
-Realising I hate my subject
-Finding it way to hard
-Getting lost (I am so bad with directions
)
Oh, and not being able to understand the Scottish accents!

Re: What's your biggest uni worry?Manchester and Salford are very ethnically diverse (if you end up going to Salford) so I doubt you'll encounter that much of a shock in those terms. People up north are friendlier(Original post by Dbrown18)
Ive been cocooned in london all my life. I dont think everyone up norths racist obviously, but being around so much different ethnicities growing up, i reckon im gonna get a culture shock when go up. I wouldnt say im worried about it i suppose, but i wouldnt say im looking forward to it to. Be weird.

Re: What's your biggest uni worry?I got "Freshers Flu" around December sometime when we had an exam. I'd rather have freshers flu than having to get Lemsip Max in the hope of being OK-ish for the exam, and suffering in silence unlike the rest of the people(Original post by gpostleth)
Freshers Flu
That being said, my flu only lasted like two days, before I went home, and then I got a lot better
If you get Freshers flu, count yourself lucky for getting it early.Though, I might not have got Freshers flu as easily in the first week because my immune system wasn't decreased by alcohol
This year, my biggest worries are:
Time management - I plan to hit the gym for about an hour/day for five days/week, and that could seriously impact on my work, unless I start early
Getting the work done on timeLast edited by de_monies; 19-07-2012 at 23:37. -

Re: What's your biggest uni worry?
I'm not too worried about what I might face in my course, I was facing the same problems in the start of my first year of college to do the BTEC that I just finished, the only problem I had was forming a good working relationship with my colleagues, most of them didn't bother with the work and some I could help easily and they could help me with one or two things.
My worries in university might include:
- Getting along with people in accommodation and/or course
- Sorting out finances and being conservative with food money
- That my course is too specialised to make job hunting after the course much harder
- Getting up really early to a fire alarm that someone might have set off
- People might not like my interests, tastes in music or what sort of games I like which can be detrimental to my friendship with others which has been known to have happened in the past.
- Exams which I haven't done (excluding Functional Skills) for 3 years.
- Meeting someone I have known in the past, strange I know, but I don't like reunions with old colleagues.
I'm not too bothered about the workload, despite a number of people telling me that it is massive compared to my BTEC level 3, i.e. it is unlike anything I have undertaken before. So I am used to essay writing and that's about it really. -
Re: What's your biggest uni worry?
People thinking I'm too weird or too nerdy.
I'm impulsive, I'm not into football or reality shows or anything like that, I have weird habits (like I sing to myself constanty, I put on strange voices, etc), and I have a very carpe diem attitude. It's only a matter of time before I do something monumentally stupid.
