Trying to get into top unis
I'm trying to get into some very good universities and I've got books to read but they aren't the ones on their reading list.
I have read Freakonomics, The undercover Economist and Freefall by Stiglitz.
These aren't on the reading lists, will these books do or should i get the ones they say? -
Re: Trying to get into top unis
They don't need to be on any reading lists, just relevant and allow you to demonstrate your interest in the subject by engaging with them.
Freakonomics and The Undercover Economist are pretty standard. That's not to say they couldn't be used or mentioned briefly, but you might want to diversify a bit in order to stand out.
Freefall is great, just ensure that you can include some sort of anecdote to show you can engage with the texts. Perhaps compare it with the work of somebody else? I haven't actually read it but it sounds like it could be compared with Krugman's "The return of Depression Economics" quite well. -
Re: Trying to get into top unisthe books you've mention are perfectly fine(Original post by Miryo)

the books you've mention are perfectly fine, no need to spend more money
OP, some interesting books are: '23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism', 'Globalisation And Its Discontents', 'The Return of Depression Economics and the Crisis of 2008'.Last edited by aalex; 18-07-2012 at 13:31. -
Re: Trying to get into top unisI can't tell you how many personal statements I've seen that mention one or both of these. There's nothing wrong with the books, they're just mentioned so often they're practically a cliche.(Original post by Miryo)
