Can anyone recommend any books for me to read that follow the theme of obsession or dark sins?

Obsession is pretty vague. You could go for Wuthering Heights (Heathcliff for Cathy), Les Miserables (for Jean Valjean), the Hunchback of Notre-Dame (for Esmerelda), the Phantom of the Opera (for Christine) or the Turn of the Screw (for the children/percieved ghosts).

Agree with the above suggestions too.

I suppose American Psycho would come under that category.

The Gambler, by Dostoevsky (most of his books feature obsession quite heavily, but The Gambler has it most prominent as a theme).

The End of the Affair, by John Greene. Dark sin to the extent that adultery. Obsession in that the protagonist 'scented love, and now he stalks it' without noticing that he is harming her, and ultimately begins her demise. At the same time as striking a rivalry with God, who he feels has stolen his lover from him: 'I was with her, I penetrated her, I owned her'.

Try 13 steps down, it's kind of creepy very 'obsession' based though

I sort of did this sort of theme and one of the books I wrote about was called The End of Alice. If you have a strong stomach, I recommend it, a lot of good stuff in there. If you're easily put off, do not go near it under any circumstances :P

Which other novel did you compare it with in your essay?
