Will society ever reach Utopia?
Will we ever efface all prejudicial opinions and bigotry? Can we? Can we eradicate the covetous nature of political 'tyrants' and with the contemporary scandal of Bankers which epitomises this. It's perhaps speculative, but can anyone ever envisage such a world? Will the world always contain the intrinsic evil in the hearts of some? Is Utopia an abstract noun or a tangible concept?

Re: Will society ever reach Utopia?
Utopia will never happen....
everyones vision of 'Utopia' is different and due to self-intrest and peoples selfish intrests it would be rather difficult er...take hitler and stalin for example
wasnt hitlers envisions of utopia immoral??- well he wanted to reach some sort of perfect world
also communism- reaching a classless society has never worked
so the question is... what exactly is utopia?Last edited by unicorn king; 17-07-2012 at 21:22. -
Re: Will society ever reach Utopia?
Much as I like to be positive, it's not looking too hopeful is it? Hinduism predicted this era of evil, greed and chaos ... "Kali Yuga that is chaos, greed, violence, debauchery and lies". Now I'm atheist but that's a pretty accurate prediction! Thankfully the ignorance is replaced by divinity at some point.
Maybe there is still time for the human race to evolve to a peaceful harmony where we all live as one. There's enough food to feed the world many times over. It is only greed which gets in the way!
Yes, I'm a 'leftie' ... ;-) -
Re: Will society ever reach Utopia? How could Hitler want a Utopia? He was a Nationalist who thought that only German culture was the purest with the purest race. This is hardly a recipe for creating a world utopia, more like disaster. Communism preached class war, if anything they wanted a society built on class but very way down the scale, with a Communist elite in power.(Original post by unicorn king)

Re: Will society ever reach Utopia?exactly what people have to do to reach utopia in this kind of world.... not everyone agrees on the same thing.(Original post by iheartplums)
I saw an episode of Charmed on telly where they created a Utopia but the only way it was maintained was by annihilating anyone who caused a disturbance, which I suppose sort of defeats the purpose. -
Re: Will society ever reach Utopia?
well, unfortunately, we are kind of self-destructive in that we do things that benefit us in the short term but severely disadvantages us in the long-term. A prime example of this is the use of fossil fuels to provide energy. Because of this, I believe that a 'perfect' utopia will never be possible (depending on how you define one) but we may be able to get very close to one. However, this is only my personal opinion.

Re: Will society ever reach Utopia? And even then it never ended up working out. The Avatars were forced to admit that society is not ready for Utopia yet. But in reality, it can never happen due to human nature - it would just be a dystopia, until even that comes crumbling down eventually, again because of human nature.(Original post by iheartplums)

Re: Will society ever reach Utopia?
true... one persons perception of a utopian society is anothers perception of a dystopian society.(Original post by lolipanda)
no such thing as utopia. -

no such thing as utopia.
North Koreans probably believed they were living in Utopia during Kim Jong Ill's regime due to being brainwashed and closed from the rest of the world.Last edited by No Man; 17-07-2012 at 22:06.
