true... one persons perception of a utopian society is anothers perception of a dystopian society.
    Beat me to it. :unimpressed:

    This.

No. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

No, a´Utopia´could only be sustained by unethical methods.

I saw an episode of Charmed on telly where they created a Utopia but the only way it was maintained was by annihilating anyone who caused a disturbance, which I suppose sort of defeats the purpose.
    Brave New World style.

I live in Utopia; and NO.
What it has done (apart from "sweep" certain crimes "under the rug") has produced a town where the women all attempt to pursue relationships according to a pre-set formula, where the man is surplus to requirements before he has even been extracted.
Every one of my mates has gone to fields afar for a girlfriend.
For that special "character" that comes from real-world experience.
But; even they (nice guys though they are) are somewhat deficient in having a "universal approach" to dealing with difficult situations/people.
Oh; they are social geniuses (as would be expected).
Only with a healthy penchant for "making it up as they are going along." Basically; I got sick and tired of saying; that wouldn't work in another town. You couldn't do that in another town. That could get you beaten up/stabbed in another/some town/s etc...
The science fiction writers were right.
    It's kinda almost doable.
    And worth pursuing.
But; don't expect anything less than substantial "plastic" by-products... Eh...

Utopia is such a long way away, although I guess it's subjective. I'd probably be satisfied with getting into a full time job, creating an equilibrium between income and bills and stuff.

As for me: I have successfully "smelled out" and dated several of the most genuine inhabitants of utopia.
But; because my garage is a car journey away (utopia not thinking to provide enough garages, them being "unsightly and gross") my sports car has succumbed to both ill-maintenance (cf: my uncle was Eddie Kidd's head mechanic, and my grandad on the other side one of Monty's drivers; I **** you not), and also jealousy (youth supposing to be entitled to the same merits which accompany SUCCESS without ENTERPRISE...) I have reached a faux-pas.
Thus; I am, for the first time in my life, in a position of forced celibacy.
    Because of utopia.
    I **** you not.
    But; I shall overcome.
I shall "fXXX off" elsewhere for my jollies.
And have a jolly good time doing it.
    Hoorah !

    What is hilarious.
Is the correlation between dating site's women's supposed perceived desperation of their male victims, and the similar expectations of utopian women to devour their prey.
For; Lo ! No sooner do I feel dashed, than I retire to a less-fairer place and Shazaam ! I have a bird.
    FXXX Me !
Basically; women "sneer" at me online thinking I look a bit like a meat-head.
But; I go down the pub.
And, I do at least as well as the next guy.
    THEN...
I don't WANT the women in the pub (genuinely) because the town is a utopian plastercast...
And then I go to another town and Bam ! I have a girlfriend. (Despite the utter, utter insistance of my local inhabitants that my faliure to date local women is due to some "imagined" shortcoming by me...). Such as imagining I have a small dick (quiet the contrary...). Or that I'm gay. Or that I'm afraid. Or lack confidence. Or am too fussy. Or am too keen to date someone who was not born in the EXACT same year, with the exact same birth sign (seriously; they are THAT ****ed in the head...).
    What is funny.
Is that it doesn't matter if I leave it a short time, or a long time (which represents a whole ****ing catalogue of insults, reproaches and provocations...) the minute I go anywhere half normal, bingo; **** you (or **** them rather so to speak...).
It all just goes to continuously remind me that (contrary to all normal trends/flows) it is possible to be the only NORMAL person in a town, and yet labelled as a pariah, viewed with suspicion because I only seek to escape the plastic, and find a partner with some soul, grit and character.
Is that so very much to ask ?

I am only talking of trends though.
I couldn't possibly know every person in any town.
    Of any size.
    There are good people here.
And lads and ladies fair, to be sure.
    For to deny so.
Would be to pour scorn on the beautiful love, care and passion which has accompanied several conquests that enamored even a fool such as me.
And to this day I have lady friends here true and good.
And my bloke mates tire of attempting to witness the miracle they call my failure.
For; I told one's girlfriend of an assurety: Your boyfriend (my mate) shall NEVER see me in an ORDINARY relationship... Because he doesn't deserve to see what an ORDINARY relationship looks like.
The combination of his supposed superior stance (his girlfriends just fine, but his relationship sucks...), combined with his relative low opinion of me... riling me to the point of almost cursing.

No, I highly doubt that it will. Prejudices and unsubstantiated opinions are fundamentally features of human psyches - it is extremely difficult for a person to abstract from all these and reach a totally objective vantage point from which they interact with the world. That's practically inhuman. And to think that an entire society could achieve it - not going to happen. People don't like to think and quick prejudices save them from this. Plus you'll always have someone keen to become the figurehead of whatever viewpoint. That said, utopian ideals provide a good standard for us to attempt to get as close to as we possibly can, if we can actually agree on what ideals we should aim for.

nah, there's too many people now, I don't think we cope very well in such a huge group.

Lets see: Banish crime, drug addiction, war, illness, greed, famine, poverty, unemployment, homelessness.
How far how we come with these ? (I'll try to be positive and objective...).
Crime ? Tracked smartphones and overbearing intrusive spying rights will probably win that particular war... eventually...
Drug Addiction ? Growing problem (and that isn't even a joke...). Some folks got less dopamine receptors and seek thrills and thrill rides etc. Mabey stem cells or nano technologies will help. This town is much better than most (showing that with enough stimulus the problem can be curtailed to an extent). But; unless the government is prepared to get real hard and real rude in "looking into" people's texts, tweets, fbs, fones etc. I think it's a major concern...
War ? Obviously less of a threat since nukes (eh; at time of writing...). No loss of men is acceptable, but there hasn't been a major offensive for a little while and I get the impression that (apart from the cost) folks are real weary of all the bloodshed and don't want it. That's not a bad thing. Lets hope.
Illness ? I've always said: if you gave scientists enough time, finally they would be able to "rebuild" the body from the atom up. Every progress is one step closer in that direction...
Greed ? Or more properly; excessive greed. There's plenty of people got their eye on that one... Drugs aside (which create their own unique "brand" of greed, I think people know deep down that money and goods is only a part of the equation...
Famine ? Why do whole nations starve. Oh; yeah, greed. Hmm.
Poverty, unemployment and homelessness ? Great if you've got IT skills. Sucks if you haven't. It's not the ceremony which makes marriage. It's the vow taken before God. Then, go back to your apartment. Spend three days at hers. Then, three days at yours, and one day apart. That way you won't be poor, unemployed and homeless when she leaves you because she wakes up one morning and says "don't love you no more..."
