well I just tried it on youtube. If you disconnect after it's all greyed, you can still watch till the end of the video, but after get to the end, if you try to replay it, it says error occurred.

ohh ok thanks, the player i'm using isn't youtube though it was just an example... and the programme i'm watching is like an hour

yeah your not supposed to press reply, got to move the pointer thing back to the beginning in my experience.

I didn't touch the replay button. I can see what's going on now.

If you let the video run to the end, you can use the slider or click on the timeline bar to get the video going from whatever point you want. However, if you click the end of the bar to end the video, it will give you an error.

So as long as you don't click the extreme right of the bar to take the video to the end, you can watch it again (disconnected) by moving the slider or clicking on whichever point you want to resume from.

Yeah, its a annoying feature to be honest, don't get why they rebuffer the video, it would save them some money as well.

No worries, VLC will play just about any video/audio file you chuck at it. It looks pretty basic, but it's got some really nice features if you do a bit of digging through the menus.
