    Stupid printer
4 hours and counting and still can't get it to work with my dell inspiron 1405 on windows 7

I know the printer works on windows 7 as I have used it on my computer fine.

To install it I used a windows vista printer driver.

The problem I have is that the setup.exe won't launch on my laptop so I can't finish installing the driver.

Any ideas? (I think it may have to do with services.msc)

    Will accept help via teamviewer

    Thanks

Did you mean that you were using windows vista driver? Cause surely there are some windows 7 drivers you could use?

Did Windows 7 not find the drivers itself? (obviously not though if it isn't working).

The print is a lexmark p4350.

There is no windows 7 driver. However you can use a windows vista driver for the printer and it will work on a windows 7 machine as evident by it working on my computer.

The problem is I can't launch the setup.exe file to install the windows vista driver on my laptop.

Are there any errors? Are you running it in administrator mode (in the right click options).

it's a zip file that extracts... a seperate folder with lexmark p4350 is created that contains the drivers etc... I just need to launch the setup.exe file where it doesn't launch

No errors... done right click run as administrator already.

Mouse icon spins (task manager creates a process) but the setup doesn't begin.

Reinstall the drivers? Or are the two windows 7 machines different (32x or 64x)?

both machines have windows 7 (64 bit)

It's my first time trying to set the printer up on my laptop (where the current problem is arising)

    the computer worked fine

It's got to be another problem because when I click the print tab in Word 2010 (the laptop crashes)

Surely I should be able to click the print tab without my laptop crashing even if I don't have ANY printer drivers installed?

    Correct me if I'm wrong?

But it's got to be a system file issue (a file from the services.msc file corrupt?)

Than it might have to do with your own laptop, re-install the OS and do partial recovery if you got one user.
And than update everything and set up the printer from there

partial recovery is where you restart the computer fresh using the Windows disc while saving one users data.

I have my windows 7 disk.

How do I do a partial recovery and do I need to back up anything before hand like word documents?
