Feeling guilty because parents are hoping me through uni, how to accept their help?
My parent's are contributing £500 a month to help with living costs because I get the lowest maintenance loan, and Durham charges over £5500 in residence charges. Yet I feel guilty about it as my mum pointed out it's half her income (she's a teacher) but then I do need the money. How can I just accept the help without feeling bad.

Your mum only earns £13,000 a year after tax as a teacher? I'm not buying it. -
Re: Feeling guilty because parents are hoping me through uni, how to accept their helI sort of wondered that i think she's trying to make me feel bad she said she's only working next year for me.(Original post by Foghorn Leghorn)

Re: Feeling guilty because parents are hoping me through uni, how to accept their helWell if you really feel "guilty" then stop taking the money and live off what you earn would that make it easier?(Original post by Baconmonster)

Doesn't sound like 'help' to me if your mother is pointing that out and it making you feel guilty, I got more than that when I was working full time at a call centre so I find it hard to believe she gets less than a call centre worker being a teacher.
I'd just ignore it, accept the money and do your best at uni. You'll be the one looking after your parents when they're ageing!

If worse comes to worse, then ask your parents for some help? -

Just tell her it's a loan and you will repay her back. Anyway, as you will be living away from home, she will save money on food & utilities etc. She is not making a big sacrifice.
I know someone remortgage their house in order for their daughter to go to university as they didn't want her to get any maintenance loan.
You are going to a good univeristy, enjoy it.
