I want to apply for trading summer internships...

Would management consultancy work experience be looked down on by the banks (lack of focus) or would it add value to my CV?

Depends how you sell it, whether you can show that you developed the skills they are asking for. Still, not that many applicants have finance-related work experience when applying for the summer internship so this could work in your favour (and personally I think it will)
