Re: Can't read my external HDDIt happened to me when borrowing my mates external HDD, somethings gone wrong, thats why I dislike them, had a bad experience, you got to be very careful when switching between computers.(Original post by kka25)
Well, I have searched all over the internet and still can't find a solution : (
My computer (and 4 other computers) did detect the external but they asked me to format it, which I don't wan't to do : (
It appears on My Computer but I can't access it. Could someone help me
Best thing possible is to use a recovery programming to get it all back, than format it -
Re: Can't read my external HDDyou need a recovery program, because the files still exist, just currently HDD shows it as free space.(Original post by kka25)
How do I recover them? I can't even access them
Is there any other way to access them? : (
Try recuva, it's free, it'll take half a day to search through it all, then another few hours to transfer them over, than you can reformat it -
Re: Can't read my external HDDThank you. I'll look into it!(Original post by Iqbal007)

If anyone has other suggestions, I'm more than happy to hear it! ; ( -
Re: Can't read my external HDD
My recommendation would be that even if you manage to get your drive working again, you get a replacement as soon as possible. The drive is probably on its last legs, I wouldn't trust it with any important data after this.
In terms of practical suggestions, you could try loading up a Ubuntu LiveCD and see if that will consent to read it. Although you might have trouble getting Ubuntu to write to anything else, it used to be a bit of a sod, I don't know how easy it is nowadays. -
Re: Can't read my external HDDI completely agree with you. I'll put some investment to buy a good one.(Original post by Dez)

That's a good suggestion; maybe a Linux distro can mount the HDD - but I freaking hate Linux - all of them; it's so unfriendly and hard to navigate
*Sorry you Linux lovers; no hard feelings
