It happened to me when borrowing my mates external HDD, somethings gone wrong, thats why I dislike them, had a bad experience, you got to be very careful when switching between computers.

Best thing possible is to use a recovery programming to get it all back, than format it

you need a recovery program, because the files still exist, just currently HDD shows it as free space.

Try recuva, it's free, it'll take half a day to search through it all, then another few hours to transfer them over, than you can reformat it

My recommendation would be that even if you manage to get your drive working again, you get a replacement as soon as possible. The drive is probably on its last legs, I wouldn't trust it with any important data after this.

In terms of practical suggestions, you could try loading up a Ubuntu LiveCD and see if that will consent to read it. Although you might have trouble getting Ubuntu to write to anything else, it used to be a bit of a sod, I don't know how easy it is nowadays.

I completely agree with you. I'll put some investment to buy a good one.

That's a good suggestion; maybe a Linux distro can mount the HDD - but I freaking hate Linux - all of them; it's so unfriendly and hard to navigate

*Sorry you Linux lovers; no hard feelings :ninja:
