It's not dangerous to be having Protein Shake every single day like 160g+ is it?
Surely a shake is just like eating a high-protein meal, plus it's from Maximuscle so quality tested, etc, should be fine right?
From my 2 protein shakes I only get 80 grams of protein, the other 80 or slightly more comes from other food sources.
Providing I keep my water up, veg high, salad and fruit to a good level, hitting the top level of RDA of protein won't do any damage to my body (don't want kidney failure or whatever), will it?
I'm 20 btw. -
Re: It's not dangerous to be having Protein Shake every single day like 160g+ is it?
The reason I ask is because i'm going carb-free and no idea how this will affect protein in my body since my glycogen stores will be slowly diminished and hence i'll need increased protein, but I just want to make sure having high amounts every day for 8 weeks won't do any long or short term damage.

Unless you suffer from a pre-existing kidney problem, it's pretty unlikely that a protein intake of 160g/day will cause any health problems whatsoever. Whether it's optimal or necessary is another question entirely.

pointless even having 80 gram shakes... you can only absorb so much per hour
If he wants to drink this much he could at least split it up over 4 drinks -

even so, if he's looking on bulking maxi muscle is overpriced and lacking in calories... people need to read more into what they're doing :L

Re: It's not dangerous to be having Protein Shake every single day like 160g+ is it?The amount of exercise you say you do, and you're going on a Carb free diet? Whose idea is this and why? Glucose is your body's preferred energy source and you get that most easily from carbs!(Original post by RollandGarros)

Re: It's not dangerous to be having Protein Shake every single day like 160g+ is it?using simple logic and understanding science to a higher degree level must play no part, you haven't actually stated the 'truth' yet... I must add however in supplement form it can be increased but not by more than 100%, meaning it's still over if he's on rest days. please be aware I'm talking utilization of proteins... into muscle building(Original post by Brotherhood)

Re: It's not dangerous to be having Protein Shake every single day like 160g+ is it?If he manages to do all that, it won't be intense/full effort by any stretch so you have to ask what's the point. That sounds like the perfect plan to get the physique of a 13 year old boy.(Original post by sil3nt_cha0s)

I intake 180g of protein per day. If you're trying to build muscle, eat 1g of protein per lb of LEAN body mass you want to be at. -
Re: It's not dangerous to be having Protein Shake every single day like 160g+ is it?Look it up, It's all over the Internet and is basic knowledge. I increased my bench from 70kg to 110kg in 3 months by following that method.(Original post by pshewitt1)

in fact I've seen better results... that's a 40kg increase over 12ish weeks so you went up roughly 3.3kg per week... it's more about progressive weighting than diet, people can get stronger and not bigger. -

Watch that for some information regarding protein distribution.
