    Significance of Higgs boson?
I understand that the finding the Higgs boson particle tells us how particles obtain mass but how does that help in the big picture of the big bang theory, or is it not supposed to?

The way I was thinking was that by creating (or detecting) the HB particle, we would've created new particles for them to interact with the Higgs field and thus create the particle. This doesn't really tell me much about the big bang theory though, unless I don't understand the theory properly...

    Can someone help me?

    Re: Significance of Higgs boson?
er, I think I can only answer part of your question, but the Higgs is a particle of it's own accord. All we have done is gotten evidence that it DOES exist, and confirm the standard model of the particles. I don't think that WE as humans have any uses for it, cos it just provides things with mass.

However, the particles they found were not EXACTLY what they expected - there were slight differences between all of the Higgs bosons they found (sort of like how you have different strain of bacteria, or maybe isotopes - same basic structure/job, but some differences)

And I think that's all...if you have any other questions, post them and I'll see if I can answer
