Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!What was worse was doing a 5:45-7:45 session, get to school (which for me started at8:15) absolutely knackered. Then you'd look in the clock when you thought it was nearly midday and it was 10:05 :l(Original post by sezzasays)
Ah yeah I know, I would hate evening sessions. I always find after school as well I'm just like 'ceebs, want to go home, i'm tired' and going to a pool for training would make me die a little inside. :P -
Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!Commonwealth next year probably. Thats my goal, I think Rio 2016 will be a bit too much for me.(Original post by sezzasays)
Haha, I'm in Australia so probably not a club you know, and no :P
He wants to get into one of the top American colleges, cause he's really smart as well! And then swim there and everything, and then keep training & maybe try to go to the Olympics or something.
What about you? What do you want to do with it?

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!I've put a lot of thought into it, but then that would be just as I was coming out of Uni. If I'm on a graduate scheme or something I'm stuffed.(Original post by roh)

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!Ah yeah, I suppose it's a big commitment to make 4 years out. At least it's not totally blocked off, judging from (Olympic Bronze medallist now!) Louloudis and Marriott Oxford seem pretty open to taking a year out to go to somewhere like L'boro and train for a year.(Original post by Ocassus)

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!I started OW swimming through triathlons, but I quit because I hate running so much(Original post by Nichrome)
I started open water swimming this year. I've done a 1.5k and 3k comp this year and placed reasonably, along with a few triathlons. Hoping to train further for it and do a 10k OW swim next year, I've developed a bit of a taste for them.
Forgot that I did a 3k at Dorney last year, but I was ill so didn't place well.
Do you mostly train in a pool?I'm trying to work out the best way to train for evemts next year. At the moment I'm not doing any pool or sea training, but I'm swimming in the Thames 3 or 4 times a week, and I sometimes do lake sessions. I do 40 minutes to an hour each time. -
Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!I think it's a matter of opinion and how you feel after the session really - I would much prefer your 5:45-7:45am session than my current 8:15 - 10:15pm session the night before because for some reason I feel knackered after a night session! So, how many times do you train a week and what's the approximate duration of each session for you? (Is it about 2 hours?)(Original post by Aeschylus)

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!
Like most people on here I used to swim a lot when I was a kid, mainly because my parents made me go at first but then I really started to enjoy it. Since then though I literally haven't been swimming in years, joined the local pool last month and still haven't been yet (ever so ashamed of myself), so after seeing this I've decided I'm going to force myself down there in a bit.
I guess I'll see where my weaknesses are and such once I get there, and just start working on it I suppose. Plus the Olympics serves as an incredible motivator. -
Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!Haha, fair enough! Mostly, I do two pool swims during the week then one longer OW swim at the weekend in a lake. I try and make one of the pool swims a speed session, but I try and fit in running and cross training as well!(Original post by Alix23)

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!Same here(Original post by xoxAngel_Kxox)
I am hoping to start swimming regularly soon. It's something I enjoyed as a child, but then as I got fatter and fatter I went less and less, mostly due to the fear that if I jumped in, half the water would come out.
But now it's such a good form of exercise that I can't afford to ignore it any longer, so I plan to swim at least once a week at the beginning, hopefully increasing it to more when I get used to it. I'll probably be doing pathetic amount like one length before I get out of breath at the beginning, but fingers crossed I can build that up relatively quickly.

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!What's swimming in the Thames like? I thought it was too dirty for swimming or something. :P(Original post by Alix23)

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!We do it upstream from London, around Cookham, Denham or Maidenhead. It's actually pretty clean round there, and there are some really quiet, beautiful spots.(Original post by sezzasays)

The current's quite strong at the moment because of all the rain, but it can make for quite a challenging upstream swim! -
Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!At the moment I'm at home and not at a club and train about 4-5 hours at my local pool. Back at university we've just got a brand new pool so I'm looking to do 8-12 hours a week next term. My favourite time to train is about 2-4pm. I train for about an hour to an hour and a half at the moment, anything between 4-6km.(Original post by Krish4791)

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!
Hey guys, just started swimming again after a long break and would appreciate some help please. Im looking to improve my cardio, which has gone significantly downhill recently, by training once or twice a week and wanted some help on a routine. Usually I just jump in the pool and do around 30 lengths of a mixture of front and breast, but would like something more challenging and useful. I would describe myself as a fairly good swimmer, and am 6'1, 12 stone and fairly slim if this helps.
Responses would be majorly appreciated

Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!
Got my swimplan ready for september and here's a brief overview what I want to achieve

Sep 17 - 4 lengths
Sep 19 - 6 lengths
Sep 21 - 8 lengths
Sep 24 - 10 lengths
Sep 26 - 13 lengths
Sep 28 - 16 lengths
Oct 1 - 20 lengths
Oct 3 - 24 lengths
Oct 5 - 28 lengths
Oct 8 - 32 lengths
Oct 10 - 36 lengths
Oct 12 - 40 lengths
Of course as university beckons may have to rearrange the times somewhat but it should stay on target for first two weeks at least (Y) -
Re: The New TSR Swimming Society!!!During term time I won't be swimming that much, 3-4 hours a week in the pool and 1-2 hours in the river except probably december and january. Then 4 hours cycling and 4 hours rowing adds up to about the amount of swimming I was doing before(Original post by Nichrome)

I've got good at time management
