majority have 8, I think the ones in F and E blocks have 7

    i've just moved out - Howden's awesome - you'll have a great time!

Okay so the allotment for accommodation has started today, so I basically wanted a separate thread for it, so that everyone can meet their potential flatmates.
BTW I got Howden D4. What did you get?
Also, how is Howden as an overall experience? I've heard that it can be a little noisy, is it true?
    Howden is so good!
    Just moved out this year!
Such a good atmosphere, rooms are good, and you're right in the heart of the edge.

As for the noise - i was right on the front - by the taxi rank and edge in D2, and it didn't bother me at all after freshers - you just get used to it.

aaaand its not that bad anyway!
its just a bit of hustle and bustle you'd expect from such a fun student environment.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the details. Any idea which side D4, room2 would be facing? (I hope its on the opposite side of The Egde :P)
i was in D block this year, and room 2 faces away from the edge there.
Annnndd don't you worry about noise
its not a problem at all in my opinion - its just a bit of hustle and bustle you'd expect in such an amazing, fun student environment.

You wouldn't want it to be like a ghost town now would you!

Basically endcliffe is an amazing place - so don't worry about anything.

i was right on the front in d2 and I think i was woken up once in the whole year, when i left the window open and some really drunk girl kept shouting the word "BISMARKKKKK" over and over,
    which was actually quite funny!

    Nahh don't worry about it.

    Hope this helps

    Hello everyone!!!

I was in Howden C2 for my first year (im going into 3rd year now)

and I have to say it was really noisy and awful and totally messed up my sleep pattern! I wouldnt have minded so much if i had a fun flat and we went out and stuff but instead you just hear everyone else returning home.

It was constantly noisy tbh. Its right opposite the taxi ranks and the Edge bar (the main centre) so its noisy- during exams I did find this really stressful, especially when you have a 9am exam and you can just hear people until 5am coming back noisy especially when they think its fun to sing and shout and argue outside your window! There is security but they dont do anything at all

Howden is the block which is worst for receiving noise because its next to everything. If your facing the Edge (which my room was) then get the ear plugs! If your facing the other way- consider yourself lucky!

Sorry, not trying to put anyone off! 1st year isnt too hard anyway and most courses you only need a pass- just its not fun in respect to noise

I would like to respectfully, yet fully disagree with what's written here.
I've just moved out of Howden D2, and i didnt have a problem with noise at all

I was facing the edge, and i think i was woken up twice all year by noise
This year security did stop people being loud during exams, and its not really that bad at all - its just fun hustle and bustle that you'd expect and it would be like a fcuking ghost town without it!

I loved every bit of living in endcliffe and please don't let the noise thing worry you - i didn't have ear plugs and its fine!

in addition, first year isnt really about work - its about moving away from home, settling on your own, finding new friends, finding your feet with your subject, finding out what you like doing, and just having a laugh - nothing serious at all

So just go with an open mind and have a nice time!

Hope this helps - any questions just askkkk!!!!

Since when were first year exams stressful lol? I would say the best block to be put in is Froggatt.

I was in Rivelin in my first year and tbh it doesnt matter where you are, its going to be noisy coz the people make it noisy!!

I got woken up at 2am the day of a 9o'clock maths exam...was not impressed...

Awesome halls though, you'll love sheff!!
Same, but for a politics exam was the last day of exams so about 95% of people had finished. I was crying I wanted to sleep that much :')

well i was just talking about mky experience.

Were you facing the Edge or the other side?

Im not the sort of person to go to bed early either- last year i used to go between 5am and 8am, I was just saying that for those who like peace and quiet its not the ideal place.

I have just made an account on TSR just to ask this question because I'm so confused...
What is the difference between Carrysbrook court and Stephenson? I received an accommodation offer and on the actual contract it says Stephenson hall but there was a link to information about Carrysbrook court... Is Stephenson within Carrysbrook court??

Hi, kaisa131, I received offer for Crew flats but i believe I will just go for private accommodation. My friends and I found a nice house(4-bedroom) 20 min away from Uni. I believe it is less far than Endcliffe. I don't know yet, but I don't see a point to pay twice as much for less quality then we found. House is available from October only though thus I will have to stay with friends who live nearby lol.

Cratcliffe is quite out of the way and has a lot of post-grads so you won't generally be disturbed by rowdy freshers 24/7! It's still only 2 mins from the edge and from Stephenson though so you're not completely out of the loop!
