lol. ok. What about dogs? Flesh-eating parasites?
Wtf are you talking about? This thread is about a cat not a dog.

    Re: My cat's dying
Jock was taken by the SSPCA this afternoon to the vet (my mum can't drive and taking him on the bus would be cruel, generally we rely on home visits from the vet..); the vet will have put him to sleep this afternoon.

It was a quick decision as Jock had become very poorly overnight and it just seemed cruel to let him suffer. He'd been sick and really was struggling to get any breath in at all. The lady that came here had a quick look and said he was best going to sleep today, so took him off with her. He was allowed to take his favourite blanket to keep him cosy in the van but we decided to leave his "toy" - was a cuddly toy guinea pig that we got in 1996 but was chewed, mangled and barely recognisable as a toy ..

Sadly we won't get him - or his ashes - back; but they'll take care of that I suppose.

It hurts though and I wish they could have put him to sleep here with people that knew him, rather than with complete strangers. Stupidly I keep worrying that he would have been lonely and scared. He's never liked the car much and can be quite a shy cat when faced with people he doesn't know, if we had builders in etc he would hide.

Thank you for all lovely messages - will read them tonight and reply to you all; though writing that I'll see him "soon" is rather cruel I would really hope, God willing, that it isn't that soon! :P

Found a tiny white feather tonight by his bed - logic says it came from the cage which had obviously had a bird in it before they got Jock into it; but it's a nice thought to think he sent it or something (think the end of Forrestt Gump).

    xx

My cat died the other day. She got into a fight with a mother fox and the fox killed her. She was totally alone outside in the dark when she died and that is so hard to deal with. So think that at least you will be with him and it will be painless. Just like going to sleep

I don't know if you're religious, I am not at all but I quite like this story:

    Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Where do all the cows and pigs and chickens that we ate go when they die?

I actually said that to my mum the other night; we had a "small" silverfish problem in my flat (i.e. 100 odd critters in the walls and under the carpets), and on talking about pets going to heaven, I wondered out whether everything of that kind goes up to heaven too.. Would you have a field of silverfish, spiders and the rest? Horrible thought!

Cows/pigs etc I don't mind. I suppose that comes under the category of hurt animals .. maybe.

I don't really know why I'm posting, just to see if anyone else has gone through this before and what made it hurt a bit less?
It always find it feels like a release to write down your problems. You clearly loved the cat and im sure it had a happy life with you and your family, thats all anyone (or cat lol) can ask for
