King's College admission policy?
Hello, I would appreciate it if someone could answer my question:
I want to know how the admission tutors at King's use UKCAT/GCSE/Alevel data to choose who to interview, and to what extent they use them after interview to select candidates. From my understanding, in medicine at King's, they use a 'sliding scale' of UKCAT and number of A*s at GCSE? Is this the case with Dentistry as well?
thanks in advance. -
Re: King's College admission policy?
The sliding scale is the same for dentistry too.
Also they look at the performance of your school, so if your school's average is AAAA and you're on AAB, then you're considered a weak applicant. However, if your school's average is BBC and you're predicted ABB then you're considered to show potential and could get an interview, hence why the offer is AAA/a to BBB/c. It's your grades and UKCAT that will get you the interview, work experience and voluntary work play more of a role at the interviews.
At interview, it's a clean slate for everyone and the offers are based on your performance at interview, so no grades and UKCAT scores are taken into account after interview stage.
Also, KCL use a double blind method, so they have 2 teams; 1 who select people for interviews and the others who carry out the interviews. The interviewers know NOTHING about your grades, personal statement, UKCAT score ... it's a clean slate for everyone.
With regards to the UKCAT, they are looking for scores in the top 50th percentile, which this year was 635. So if you had a score less than 635 this year, your chances of getting invited for an interview were low unless you had amazing grades. -

Re: King's College admission policy?Upper care = A2 grade(Original post by chignesh10)
Hi i dont understand what that small c is at BBB/c
Lower case = AS grade
So BBB/c = 3 Bs at A-level including a C in the dropped AS subject. -
Re: King's College admission policy?Ah ok!(Original post by .inspiron1)
Upper care = A2 grade
Lower case = AS grade
So BBB/c = 3 Bs at A-level including a C in the dropped AS subject. -

Re: King's College admission policy?I asked kings if they would consider me with my 8 A's and 3 B's at GCSE and they said it would be best not to apply there as my grades aren't that strong(Original post by Link96ra)

Re: King's College admission policy? If you get 700+ in your UKCAT then it might be worth a shot, but there are other universities that you can apply to where you meet the requirements safely.(Original post by Reelberg93)

Re: King's College admission policy?yeah that's true! Although my GCSE's were't great as my grandma was ill and then passed away during them but I never informed the school.(Original post by .inspiron1)

Either way I'm not sure I'll get the A-level grades needed!

I think you should be okay academically for most places.
I'm going to decide after sitting my UKCAT, I have Sheffield, Newcastle, King's and Leeds in mind. -
Re: King's College admission policy?oh cool!! What are your GCSE's and predicted grades?(Original post by .inspiron1)

I spent last summer at a practice and was paid and am going back this year to be a 'trainee dental nurse' also I've volunteered in a local private practice once a week since january and am doing a week at the hospital next week.
Volunteer work: helping the school nurse, working at a school for disabled children
How about yourself? -
Re: King's College admission policy? Are you taking a gap year? Training as a dental nurse takes 12 months, doesn't it?(Original post by Reelberg93)

Re: King's College admission policy?I'm not going to actually become a dental nurse, basically last year they said get your vaccinations and next year you can do the stuff a trainee dental nurse does(Original post by .inspiron1)
