Talking to myself
I've had this habit of talking to myself for quite a few years, except I'm usually not talking to myself, but rather, to 'others' instead. I make up little scenarios in my head, and make conversation (actually I mime) to imaginary people, except they are people I either know in real life or are celebrities. I usually do this in front of a mirror, and observe my facial expressions and pretend to guess how the 'others' may be looking. The conversations often don't make sense, and are always one-sided.
i feel to embarrassed to see a doctor about this atm, but just wondered if there's anyone else who does the same, and if this is a sign of some underlying mental illness? -
Re: Talking to myself
I spent half of my childhood talking to myself, i have a really bad habit of day dreaming, start playing out scenarios like films or books in my head, i still do it, but it was really bad when i was younger, i would just drift off in public and start talking away, now i generally don't speak but my mouth still moves when i do it. It has got me in trouble a few times, when I'm meant to be paying attention to something and suddenly my eyes are glazed over and I'm clearly not even aware of where i am.
But i don't mind, it has its pluses and negatives, stuck on a train ..good, driving in slow moving traffic ...bad, very bad. -
Re: Talking to myselfYes, I do exactly the same, but it has recently occurred to me how odd it is.(Original post by Anonymous)
Me too!
Like I'll be sat at home imagining myself in the event with other people, carrying out a full conversation without realising or 'rewinding' a certain scenario and progressing it how I wanted it to take place. -

Thank you all for putting my mind at rest! It's good to know that this does not make me some sort of weird freak or something ! -
