Processor VS amount of RAM
Which is better in a laptop, the processor or the RAM, when it comes to getting the fastest internet out of my crappy wireless?
Like in my case, would it be better to get laptop A or laptop B:
Laptop A:
- Intel® Core™ i3-380M processor (2.53 GHz, 3 MB cache memory)
- RAM: 8GB (DDR3)
or Laptop B:
AMD Quad-Core A8-3520M (1.6 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache)
RAM: 6 GB (1 x 2 GB, 1 x 4 GB) -
Re: Processor VS amount of RAM
A, you won't utilize the multiple cores just surfing around.
That said, you can probably upgrade the RAM in both of them -- but, again, you won't need to, if you're just surfing. The fact that laptop A uses DDR3, if laptop B doesn't, is a plus though.
And your actual bandwidth won't be affected by any of these things: it'll be affected by what your ISP pumps into your home and the speed/strength of your wifi connection.Last edited by faber niger; 18-07-2012 at 23:21. -
Re: Processor VS amount of RAM
Have you tried plugging your current laptop in via Ethernet?
If the speed improves by a huge margin it could be the wireless router, the wireless card (in the laptop) or the distance you are from your router, wireless routers work a lot harder bouncing signals around your entire home.
To stay on topic laptop A - if there's a significant price difference and B is DDR3 you can upgrade the RAM to 8GB for around £20-£25
