Re: BBC One: Great British IslamSorry what? What on earth?(Original post by NoreenK)
Is anyone watching this?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01l1yl6
As Ramadan approaches, this documentary tells the little-known story of three English gentlemen who embraced Islam at a time when to be a Muslim was to be seen to be a traitor to your country. Through personal journeys of still surviving relatives, the programme looks at their achievements and how their legacy lives on today.
I'm finding it very interesting. -
Re: BBC One: Great British Islam
Nah, looks pretty boring.
You know how being a communist in 50s/60s America was like being a traitor to your country? Pretty much like that.(Original post by Fynch101)

Re: BBC One: Great British IslamI just think its quite presumptuous. Being a communist in 50s/60s USA meant being pretty much against the American dream. Being a muslim in Britain at any time just means you're gambling on the hope that your god is the true one, it doesn't have to go against anything to do with what 'British' is (UGH!).(Original post by Annoying-Mouse)
y would i be joking? -
Re: BBC One: Great British IslamNot if this happened when Christianity was a part of British identity hence conflicting with it.(Original post by Fynch101)

Re: BBC One: Great British IslamIsn't every news outlet biased to an extent in one way or the other?(Original post by Perseveranze)
Of course they are, most of their bias comes in their news reporting, like when they blamed Muslims for the Oslo bombings, but they've also used opportunities for Anti-Islam bias in their panorama's like; “Living with the Ayatollah”.
That's why this coming from them is saying a lot, maybe they're trying to make up lost trust. It's a shame though, they had to ruin it when they tried drag Abdul Quillam's name in the mud with their conspiracy theories. Apart from this, don't think many can dispute it's accuracy.
If you want a better source for the 3 early converts to Islam, let me know and I'll give you them. -
Re: BBC One: Great British IslamJust watch the documentary, it's a direct quote from the documentary. Heck, you don't even need to watching all of it (I didn't myself), it's explained within the first 5-10 minutes.(Original post by Fynch101)

Re: BBC One: Great British IslamAnd when was Christianity part of British identity last in your opinion?(Original post by Annoying-Mouse)
Not if this happened when Christianity was a part of British identity hence conflicting with it. -
Re: BBC One: Great British IslamThis happened between 1880s-1930s so I would still say Christianity was a part of British identity considering they were very religious at this time.(Original post by Fynch101)
And when was Christianity part of British identity last in your opinion?
