Who are the Orange Order?
Why are they so fixated about a battle that took place hundreds of years ago?
And Why do they appear so petulant despite looking like they're fairly established? (I was jsut watching an orange order clip and most of them look like CEO's...hardly like they were a catholic in 70's belfast). I remember one threatened a police officer with his ceremonial sword because of marching routes and then there's the famine clip outside the church. One of my ex-neighbours was a protestant in Glasgow who dated a catholic girl and was told to leave the city and never come back or else....where does this hatred come from?Last edited by Fusion; 19-07-2012 at 01:08. -
Re: Who are the Orange Order?
The secret other original half of the Order of the Phoenix, who died from too much self-tanning.
Edit: But seriously, the Orange Order is the enemy of the IRA. They are half the reason the Troubles in Ireland haven't truly ceased. They're a bunch of weirdos mostly, but some of them are potentially dangerous, if only because of their stupid devotion to their stupid ideology.
Edit 2: I think the IRA are just as bad. (Thought I'd add that in, so it doesn't sound like I support them.) So I'll amend my earlier statement to the Orange Order and the IRA together are the enemies of Ireland... But I don't live in Ireland, and as for my family's part in the Troubles, that was a long, long time ago. I think the remains of the IRA and the OO are just as pathetic as the whites in the old Jim Crow states who still support slavery...Last edited by willbee; 19-07-2012 at 02:37. -
Protestant, loyalist irish group who march in ireland and scotland to commemorate the battle of the boyne when protestant king billy beat catholic king james in the 1600s. wave flags and banners and play flues. hate catholicism and wind up people no end. to the casual observer seem to be a cheery bunch but their existence is predicated on hate and prejudice. Enjoy marching in areas where theyll get a reaction like they did last week in belfast and are a drain on society, both in financial and safety terms. Steer clear

RE the famine song ironically telling people to go home even though they themselves live in ireland, and on top of that they arent the indigenous people where they liveLast edited by AhzhaK; 19-07-2012 at 02:59. -
Re: Who are the Orange Order?Actually most Protestants in Northern Ireland came from Western Scotland four hundred years ago, and the majority of people in Western Scotland are actually descended from Gaels who originated from Ireland. So the Ulster Protestants are actually mostly indigenous to Ireland.(Original post by AhzhaK)
